John Lambies Doos
So following on from a qualifying triplet which was in the wrong order (get battered against Austria, play far too within ourselves against Israel, and then finish with a game so easy that it doesn't teach anything) we're playing the 2010 finalists (and having to do it on neutral ground because both countries have fucked their plague responses) and probably getting cuffed before following it up with a complete gimme that will paper over the cracks again.Dreadful post
DiegoDiego
How far is too far to look back to talk about nations and previous achievements? It's burying the lead a bit to talk about the Netherlands as "the 2010 finalists" when they're only just recovering from having an absolute nightmare. I'm not sure you understand what burying the lede means.
Pocketman
Luxembourg are a poor shout for any prep game or friendly. An easily arranged game with ROI or NI would have been a better test after the Dutch - or even a Scottish Premiership select. You used to see those games reasonably often in the 80s (or maybe there was one!) but perhaps died out the same way as first team players turning out for the Tennents Sixes. Anyhow, Lux will offer us nothing different than the Faroes so other than a pre Euro warm-up game, can't help but feel there are much better and more valuable options that could easily have been arranged,

Playing NI or ROI would be utterly useless. What value is there in playing a friendly against bottom tier Premier League, Championship, and League One players? Doesn't the vast majority of our team already play against that every week? At least Luxembourg is full of established international players, many plying their trade in top leagues of Germany, Portugal, Ukraine, Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, and Switzerland. They aren't (obviously) the level of the Croats or Czechs, but they are a mile more useful than a Championship and Scottish Premiership XI that would be playing NI.
forameus
I think it's a decent couple of games. Luxembourg should be the sort of game to give us a decent runout without (hopefully) testing us too much. And the Netherlands are the sort of side we want to give a good account against if we have any dreams of beating the likes of England and Croatia in the groups.
Gordopolis
I reckon Luxembourg is there to give us a realistic shot at a mini goal glut. They're no mugs, but if we approach it properly we should be winning this comfortably

A wee 3 or 4 goal win would be a good way to go into a tournament. The Dutch are to give us a good test prepare us for what we'll face, and Luxembourg to boost confidence. Decent fixtures.
weanjohnson
These games are a step up from the typical SFA mentality of "oh how do we get folk to turn up to Hampden on a Thursday night?" "och just give [world class player]'s country a ring" One pumping later and the ground was only half full.

Never in a million years are Luxembourg a better side than ROI.
John Lambies Doos
Luxembourg are much improved, the difference between their and ROI. ranking is seriously skewed due to the way rankings are done. Currently there is not too much difference between teams with many of Luxs players playing at a higher level than the benched championship players that ROI have. Anyone that thinks we will bang 5 past Luxembourg is for the birds.
Stellaboz
Any idea when the Lux FA will release details for the venue and potentially tickets? Hoping to make a long weekend of it with the missus in Luxembourg, looks like a gorgeous city and country. Might stop in Trier on the way home also, meant to be nice.
HuttonDressedAsLahm
26-man squads just confirmed by UEFA. Wonder if that means there’s a seat on the plane/bus for Patterson, Gilmour, or Gauld? Certainly means there shouldn’t be any very difficult decisions, but equally might mean that Burke, and Paterson will make it...
craigkillie
Most of our squads for the qualifiers are 26 or 27 so it doesn't necessarily mean a massive influx of fresh blood or anything like that.
G51
If Oli Burke or Callum Paterson make the Euros squad then my head will completely detach itself from my neck.
