mrman2011
With the increase of teams in Europe to 5 will this have a big factor on Next seasons league cup? or will they offer 1 less place to a 2nd place team
deej
You have to assume that there will just be one group of 4, and then 3 places for best runners up instead of 4? Possibly discounting results against the bottom placed team in the groups of 5 as they used to in WC/Euro qualifiers.
craigkillie
I would have thought they'd include an extra non-league team rather than having uneven groups - not sure the best way to determine it, but for this season maybe just the runners-up in whichever league's champions win the play-off (most likely the Lowland League).
Steve McQueen
Maybe Celtic or Rangers colts could join!
Bmm
Would the most sensible thing to do not have the scottish cup winners play in the group stage. They have only two qualifiers that start in August and competive football might be useful for them. Edited May 6, 2021 by Bmm

Get out of here with your sensible thinking, no place for that at the SPFL 23 hours ago, Steve McQueen said: Maybe Celtic or Rangers colts could join! If Hibs win the cup it might look a bit daft to make your third place team play in the groups while 4th and 5th get a bye. If its any of the other 3 I think that's the best solution to give them preparation for the Europa. The 5th European spot could be with us for 3 or 4 years though, so they might look at a more permanent solution.

FortescueFotheringhamSmyth
Groups confirmed as starting 2nd weekend of July. Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th. Inviting Linfield as guests to make up the numbers might be popular with some SFA blazers and would see the competition off to a fiery start. Sadly, the original Harland & Wolff Works XI enters the Champions League well before the Glaswegian offshoot, so they will be in Champions League action that week, as will the likes of Olympiacos, Legia and Malmo. It'll be amusing if it's a Poland v. Sweden semifinal at the Euros, on the same day as the Champions League games.

realmadrid
The seeds etc are all known now Unless they change the format things should be as follows Into the last 16 as seeds Rangers Celtic Hibs Aberdeen St Johnstone North group number 1 seeds Livingston Dundee United Ross County Hearts South group number 1 seeds St Mirren Motherwell Kilmarnock Hamilton North group number 2 seeds Dundee Raith Rovers Inverness Arbroath South group number 2 seeds Dunfermline Queen of the South Ayr Morton The remaining clubs split North and South, with the one additional place to be awarded, possibly a play off between a highland and lowland league side but with Brora , Kelty and Brechin all likely to end up in the North section it would be better if this extra non SPFL side was in the South group.
PauloPerth
Couldn't Kelly be in the south section? Only 8 miles or so along the road from Dunfermline who are in the south section on the above list.
realmadrid
its north to south or south to North in each section of seeding. (rank the top 8 North to south , then next 8 etc) Kelty's place will be determined by the location of the ground in the 24 unseeded teams in the draw, most likely in the northern half of the unseeded teams Thats why Dumbarton ended up in the North one year as there were 4 championship teams further south than them. From memory Falkirk have played in both the North and South sections and there will be other teams like that.
Dunning1874
While it means one fewer runner-up place will be available, five byes and having to shift the seeding down a place does have the welcome consequence that the previous season's Championship winners are among the top seeds, rather than the previous annoying insistence on having a Premiership club as second seeds and a Championship club as top seeds which guaranteed one group with two Premiership clubs and one group with none. Although Dundee and Kilmarnock can still f**k that up obviously.

Another oddity would be that if Kelty go up, you could end-up with 3 from Highland and none from Lowland... You could end-up with a Highland team in almost every North group - or even 2 or 3 of them all in the same group (which would probably represent best conditions for someone non-league to actually reach knockouts tbf).
Antony
East Kilbride will fill the extra spot after lots were drawn between EK and Fraserburgh as tier 5 runners up. Group stage draw on Friday. Edited May 21, 2021 by Antony

HibeeJibee
Pity didn't let them play-off. Incidentally... EK and Bonnyrigg both 'finished' on 2.24pts-per-game. EK placed 2nd by 0.25 GF-per-game.
