Always mighty fucking pleasing to witness Celtic and their support have to come to terms with their minuscule standing in European football for another season.

Loving the "didnt expect much anyway" vibe from the unwashed masses this morning.

And their players, if the BBC is to be believed. (Yes, I know!)

He’s only won the 10 league titles, 5 Scottish Cups and 5 League Cups so you can understand why, for an ambitious young man like him who is constantly driving his growth and development whilst seeking out new challenges, domestic success would continue to be his focus.

What does it matter what competition it is, we created the chances and couldn’t finish them, nothing to do with the quality of opposition defenders, keepers or the name of the comp, we were poor in front of goal, some times they chances go for you, like United away or the recent hibs, Motherwell and hearts games, and sometimes they don’t.  Unfortunately for us the poor finishing came in the CL.

So it is a coincidence that the 5 games you have played against opposition where 1 is miles in front of you, 1 is slightly in front of you and 1 should be on par with you your players couldn't take their chances yet in the games where you enjoy monumental advantages of your opponent they fill their boots?

Which is?

The vast majority of leagues being predictable and are practically closed shops in terms of who can win it = Good for Celtic

The CL groups are now in the main predictable and the winner is likely only ever going to be won by a 'Super league' club + PSG or Bayern, basically a closed shop. This is a competition that your club has won but is now (at the business end) closed off for the likes of your team = Bad for Celtic

We currently have closed shops anyway, you just happen to benefit from it in 1 way but not in another.

Cool

That wasn’t my question though was it…

Do you support a Super League?

Pretty straight forward yes or no

I don’t

Do you support the current CL format?

I don’t

it’s that easy to answer

We havent made a great amount of inroads in Europe for the best part of 2 decades and champions league football is seen more as a bonus these days. Think we came to terms with our standing a while ago albeit not really ‘miniscule’.

As for this campaign despite the lack of points Im not too disheartened, our performances and stars showed that we haven’t been an embarrassment* and it will have provided a steep learning curve for many of our team.

* Will delete this bit after we go the the Bernabeu.

Aye, whatever.  The fact that the opposition are generally of a higher standard means less time for strikers to convert, obviously. As the Celtic forwards are not Champions League standard they invariably fail to convert chances they routinely score in the domestic game. TBF, It may be a mental thing but as Postegoclu is not a Champions League standard coach/manager he is unable to do anything about it.  Can't be helped. Nobody's fault. It's just the way things are and always will be; for as long as Glasgow Celtic play in Scottish football they will be unable to attract the players or coach of the standard required.

Would you consider Martin ONeil or Brendan Rodgers of Champions League standard? Genuinely curious

Kind of the point I was making, getting us out of the group stages doesn’t make someone a Champions League level manager, the concept of such a thing is a bit fantastical. You have managers that have won the Champions League who have turned out to be pretty shit.

So what is a Champions League level manager then in your opinion? Someone who can get us out of the group stages?

So you'd have to say if you're being generous that Gordon Strachan and Neil Lennon fulfilled that criteria and, if only for a short period, were of Champions League standard. Parhaps there is an argument for Martin but not sure of any other Celtic manager in the CL era.
