Has the nursery offered any kind of reasonable explanation as to why the applicants with Muslim-sounding names were rejected whilst the others were offered places? If not, it seems like a pretty open-and-shut case.

Now suing the nursery for £30,000.  Not sure where £30k comes from and seems excessive and wholly disproportionate to any loss.  I get a strong feeling on entitlement here.

The nursery is, however, defending the action.

Compensation for injury to feelings in discrimination cases is awarded with reference to the Vento bands. £30k is probably overvalued but you could expect a five figure sum if successful.
