‘sakes man. People quite literally losing their lives and your worried about losing, what, £10/month? Perspective adjustment required I fear.

It's a bit bigger than that, BP will lose half their oil reserves and an estimated $25 billion. I'm guessing that they thought Putin would just confiscate their share in Rosneft anyway with what's going on, so might as well salvage what they can by putting their share on the market.

I assume the fact that BBC Russian would get a reciprocal ban makes a bit of a difference in thinking in the UK.

Quite a few RT journalists have resigned due to the war. The Editor in Chief of Russia Today is a fully paid up Putin cheerleader, she tweeted in favour of harsh action against the protesters a few days ago.

This guy didn’t get the response he was hoping for.  He’s quite clearly a loonball in the Pilger mould.

It seems like the drone strike footage that’s emerged the last couple of days is genuine. TB2s are still in play, a potentially devastating weapon. From the looks of it the Russian troops haven’t been prepared for it either. Early in the Karabakh War Armenian forces were devastated by it, they hadn’t adapted their behaviour and camouflage. Quite why the Russians haven’t a) gone out and destroyed the TB2s and the rest of the Ukrainian Air Force before doing anything else and b) failing that tried to protect from drones is a mystery. Most Russian Air Force jets can easily take out a TB2, yet here they are blowing up Russian armour and soldiers.

In likely related news, Putin has dismissed the Russian Army Chief of General Staff.

He's probably taken all military decisions by himself going forward

Dismissal of his Army Chief of Staff tells you that he's not best pleased.

Are the drones definitely being operated from inside Ukraine?

There was a review of the Karabakh War last year, written by a series of defence analysts from a number of countries. One fact they found was that in the first hour of the conflict the Armenian side lost more than 50% of their artillery due to drone strikes and artillery fire facilitated by drone intelligence. The Russians knew that Ukraine had these weapons and their use in Donbas was one of the trigger points to this war but the battle plans don’t seem to have prioritised countering and destroying them.

No-one has explained why this has happened.
