Even a much bigger game like the Ayrshire derby was only on TV for 2 out of the 4 matches this season for that very reason. Bigger? Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline have bigger populations than either Ayr or Kilmarnock. I'm talking from years of irritated observation that the Ayrshire derby is a darling fixture of the West coast media, especially the BBC ("you can be sure we'll cover every kick") "Scotland".

If Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline do have bigger populations than Ayr and Kilmarnock then it's even more embarrassing for both clubs that they can't draw in anything like the sort of attendances for Fife Derbies that the other two can for Ayrshire derbies.

How many folk move to Ayr and Kilmarnock from Glasgow? Dunfermline expanded rapidly and a lot of Lothianers came across the forth, bringing the Hearts and Hibs scarfs with them

Parrots don't talk with intelligence, there's nothing bigger about the Ayrshire derby except the boasting. Apart from the Fife towns being bigger, the Ayrshire derby is a one sided affair with Ayr winning less than half the number of games Killie won, compared to Dunfermline Rovers where its not far off half and half.

The novelty of playing each other in the league for how long? Has helped that massively.
Salvo Montalbano
Crowds have been decent for this fixture in the past to be fair but Derby fatigue, covid restrictions, poor form and midweek games haven't helped this season. Whereas Ayr and Killie are in the same league for the first time in how long? Maybe if Killie stayed down for three or four seasons they'd see a similar drop off from their Derby crowds of this season, but sadly it looks like Lafferty will get promoted this season.
Jilted John
The Ayrshire derby is definitely bigger than the Fife derby. We can’t even agree which teams hate who ffs. East Fife hate Raith, we hate Dunfermline and Dunfermline hate Falkirk.

Stellaboz
Killie v Ayr is akin to Pars v Cowden. It's huge for the small team, in this case Ayr. They'll probably be releasing video casettes of the latest win over them.

I think it will be 28, and hopefully it'll be another 28 after this year. We have still played them semi-often in cup games since then though. Don't UEFA block TV games that clash with their fixtures as well? Although anyone watching Champions league football over Scottish domestic stuff needs their heads looking at.
