There are some people who don’t even go to shops or takeaways anymore. All ordered and delivered without them leaving the house.

Many kids nowadays don’t even walk to school.

The problem is only going to get worse.

Totally agree.

At the end of my street is a shop and a school. The aforementioned neighbour used to give her daughter a lift every morning. My son, walking, got there quicker as he didn't need to mess about getting into the car, finding a parking space and so on.

1980 cup final riot - absolutely no-one fat in the whole thing.  Even the police officers have that straight up and down look.

Now look at this football hooligan fight from 30 odd years later.  Half the people involved have huge guts.

The best part of attending school growing up was walking with your mates there and back.

Usually loads of banter about last nights comedy tv followed by a kick about with a fitba in the school grounds.

There were very few kids growing up in my era who you would class as overweight. Now many at such a young age are definitely obese.

It is a sad reflection on our society.

All the fatties in the first video were still trying to climb over the metre high fence surrounding the pitch IMO.

If anyone wants to see where the UK is heading obesity-wise they need only take a peek at the USA.

It won't be long before people requiring 2 seats on a bus will become the norm.

I have absolutely no ideas about how the country can avoid this scenario and the subsequent cost to our health service from all the associated health issues.

Careful you might start to upset some snowflakes.

I have often thought that you should be weighed at airports and your seat ticket should be charged according to your body weight.

I should write to EasyJet. I think they are missing a trick.

It would not surprise me if the NHS is ultimately privatised.

A guy I know once got charged excess baggage at the airport and tried to argue that he shouldn't be charged it as he weighed quite a bit less than others in the group. He was unsuccessful but did have a point.

They still exist.

Not being horrible (well....maybe) but how does the first one manage to wipe his arse?

Are there specialised toilets for those requiring more "spreadage" than normal?

I often wonder how ginormously fat people get their hole as well...........

we used to save our pennies for a Fish Supper treat once or twice a year and we rarely had chocolate or sweets except for Christmas, Easter and birthdays. My family wasn't alone in this. By the time I had kids we were doing takeaways once per week and sometimes two or three times.

I think his drum must have been made out of lard and he’s actually eaten it to sustain himself on the march.

A key difference there is walkability.  A lot of America is poorly designed for walking and it is even regarded with suspicion.

Where even walking is not something people do - you get some seriously large people.

It is. A number of samples are sent to a lab, combined, analysed and averaged out.

No they're not

There's standardised lists for different ingredients. Multiply kcal/gramme by no of grammes =calories.

the red flags were there to make this inevitable. Disappointed not to see a "I'm sorry, but...." thrown in there also.

As a nation people on average have a lot more disposable income and that is a huge factor alongside the convenience of having someone else cook it and bring it to your door. We're in a completely different place these days to the early 80s.

This I think is spot on, someone posted on our local Facebook group that a iced coffee had been delivered to the wrong address. The bill was in the photo and showed they had paid nearly £10 for a coffee which I just found staggering.
