Still less than our biggest rivals who could attract better players and pay larger fees and wages. The fans who backed Celtic in the mid to late 90’s were def glory hunters.

Well, Liverpool can afford less than Man City can afford. Doesn't make them plucky underdogs.

To compete with a team that can throw millions at the likes of gascoinge and laudrup, who’d been buying top English players and attracting top international players for yrs. We were building a team and were very fortunate rangers had a brain fart the year we stopped the 10. And to illustrate how strong they were, they went on to win the next 2 titles. It was hardly a forgone conclusion that we’d win the title but the fans still backed the club by buying shares and selling out the stadium in hope.

This thinking seems to rest somewhat on a false dichotomy between "forgone conclusion" and "lost cause".

ETA: Before any pedants jump on this post I'm using "thinking" in it's broader sense

You and I must have a def definition of glory hunter, Celtic sold out the stadium and the fans backed the club after a decade of nothing.

A glory hunter is someone who follows a team due to the fact they are successful, if you’re pinning that on Celtic fans I’d maybe choose another era mate.

A decade!

boo fucking hoo

‘And it’s impacts…’

Im afraid you’re nowhere near that level of self awareness.

We already had this conversation on another thread and you walked away from it. Are we really going to have it again?

I walked away from it because, after a long stint of back and forth where you:

danced around the subject, accused me of not having any suggestions before I gave you a whole list, accused other clubs of doing the bare minimum to earn revenue before I explained to you all the things they did, suggested clubs give Celtic more tickets, suggested clubs reduce season ticket prices before after all that, eventually, in the end, you admitted you were fine with all this because you dreamed of Celtic winning a European trophy.

So you’re right, I don’t want to discuss this with you again.

The other clubs should be better run imo.

This is a very amusing conversation to read through. The absolute refusal to acknowledge the financial advantages and its impact is brilliant.

Wait till their European "campaign" starts...

I’m absolutely fine with Celtic spending what they can afford so that we make progress in Europe. I’m sure all fans of all clubs have a dream of what they would love to see their club achieve. I’ve never seen mine lift a European trophy is that such a bad thing?

We are constantly criticised for our European performances by fans of other clubs yet if we spend to try rectify that those fans then become unhappy that a financial gap is maintained or widened.

There is no way for a club like Celtic to win in this scenario. You want to profit from Celtic yet also want to limit their profitability. You can’t have it both ways
