HibeeJibee
v Dunbar United v Whitburn (First Division champions v Second Division champions) As a melancholy aside Coldstream's relegation means the 2 survivors from inaugural season - indeed Vale of Leithen v Coldstream was very first game - won't meet "100yrs on".

Rest are: 1953 Hawick (2yr in LL) 1971 Heriot-Watt Uni 1976 Craigroyston (missed 2yr) 1979 Whitehill (6yr in LL) 1981 Easthouses (missed 3yr) 1986 Ormiston 1987 Tynecastle 1991 Leith 1994 Preston (4yr in LL) 1995 LTHV 2012 Burntisland 2016 Tweedmouth etc.
Man from the East
When you look at that list complete with VoL and Coldstream, there seems to be a natural grouping in ranking position. Seems like the teams that have been around the longest are mostly not at the higher levels. Wonder why this this? Obviously the two Edinburgh Clubs who are in the SPL are excluded. Would CSS and Edin Uniy be considered models of success?

Remind me what guise were Livingston in was that the Meadowbank/Ferrari T ? Postal United morphed into Edin City/FC Edin ? How long did Annan ply their trade in EoS? Berwick - thought they just got themselves relegated from SPL into LL. I didn’t realise they were also EoS at one time. As for Kelty that was just a succession of promotions after affiliating into EoS wasn’t it?

Who merged with Leith Athletic.

HibeeJibee
Anticipation building as last season's Premier + Third Division champions go head-to-head, almost exactly a century since the league was established a few miles east, in Edinburgh's southside.
HibeeJibee
East of Scotland... - East of Scotland Football Association | Facebook East of Scotland League Centenary Cup Semi-Final Local rivalry and a cup final place are on the line when Linlithgow Rose and Bo’ness Athletic meet competitively for the first time ever tomorrow, in the opening Semi-Final of the East of Scotland League Centenary Cup (Tuesday 8th August, 7:45pm at Prestonfield). This special tournament unites last season’s four divisional winners in a unique competition to help celebrate the league’s big anniversary. It was 100 years ago next week that the EOSFL was formally established, following a meeting at the Foresters Hall in Edinburgh. Proposed by JL Fairgrieve of Selkirk (standing centre in photo below) in response to a crisis in Borders senior football, it was brought into being under the guidance of EOSFA officials David Riddle of Peebles Rovers (seated left) and Owen Brannigan of Hibernian (seated right). Vale of Leithen v Coldstream the following month was the first-ever East of Scotland League match, and the landmark Centenary Cup Final on Sunday 10th September 2023 will be played exactly a century on from that modest but important beginning. Seven clubs contested the debut season – Berwick Rangers, Civil Service Strollers, Coldstream, Edinburgh Civil Service, Gala Fairydean, Selkirk and Vale. ECS resigned halfway through the campaign and their record was taken-over by Leith Amateurs. Peebles did not participate as they were invited into the new and ultimately short-lived Scottish Football League Division Three. Coldstream won the inaugural title (team pictured the following season) and are the only club to have been ever-present members for all 100 years. Since those embryonic days the league has weathered war, national emergencies and several footballing crises to emerge as a leading organisation within Scotland’s pyramid system. Only the SFL (1990) and Highland League (1993) have reached the century mark earlier than the EOSFL. Today it is the second-largest league in Scottish senior football with 59 clubs covering the Lothians, Borders, Fife and central Scotland. Thousands of players, officials and spectators enjoy the thrills & spills of East of Scotland action every weekend. tamthebam
It was a cracking game for the neutral tonight (me). A storming second half comeback from Lithgae and some fine goals. And a nice Bridie too.
HibeeJibee
East of Scotland Centenary Cup Semi-Final HT - Linlithgow Rose 0-3 Bo'ness Athletic FT - Linlithgow Rose 5-3 Bo'ness Athletic High drama befitting the centennial of a grand old league awed a big crowd upon a sun-kissed night in the Prestonfield. Having fallen behind midway through, a double shortly before HT - first a penalty - left stunned hosts surely dead 'n buried. Not so. In a spectacle rarely witnessed in 10 decades of football they roared back to hit 5 without reply. Paterson's hattrick strike may be goal-of-the-season.
