Cheers, have you seen anything of when the first draw would be?

No, but going by previous seasons it'll be about 3 weeks before the opening round, so likely sometime next week? And presumably they'll do both prelim rounds together.

Extra Prelim round seems to be for unlicensed clubs? Is that correct?

It would seem to be (though not yet confirmed). Unlicensed clubs are required to play in the opening round and since the next round has space left for 4 clubs (52 total, with 48 licensed) then that means 3 fixtures and 1 bye for the 7 qualifiers.

Unsurprisingly, replays are now completely abolished. The end of an era.

Understandable but a pity. There will be some on here who have had to attend three matches to see a tie settled (Aberdeen v Celtic in late 80s springs to mind) and penalty shoot-outs only happened in the 3rd game, which was on neutral territory.

Agreed, but replays are on their way out everywhere. The only competition in the whole world I'm aware of which still uses them is the English FA Cup. The FA Trophy and FA Vase abolished replays in the last few years, and even the FA Cup has eliminated them from the fifth round on, with persistent calls to remove from from the third and fourth rounds as well.

I've never seen the great appeal of replays unless you end up sharing the gate of a much bigger club - you have to arrange travel at short notice and it displaces a league game, which for the preliminary round this season would be the September international weekend with local derbies scheduled (hospitality booked, bigger crowds).

The SFA page has been updated with all the dates as well as the teams and rules: https://www.scottishfa.co.uk/scottish-cup/format-rules/

Aye, which is why they have been almost uniformly eliminated. The real problem is with the arbitrary nature of the penalty shoot-out. When the alternative was a coin toss, PKs were an improvement. But FIFA and the worldwide football community can surely devise a superior replacement, such as extra time with the removal of some players.

I totally agree. Penalties are an unsatisfactory way of settling a game.

Andy Gray suggested removing players in extra time years ago.

Worth a look.

Only problem with that is if the game has been a dull 0-0 shitfest, the team causing the shitfest are going to keep it up for as long as they can. At least with penalties, fans know the game will be fairly over soon.

Draw for the opening rounds of Scotland's principal cup competition is certainly flying under the radar... the entry plus draw numbers do not even seem to have been publicised anywhere and SFA's sole facebook post about it at 6am this morning asks how far "Pollock" can go this year ?
