It's not often an opponent reaches out on to offer support and help ahead of a tie. For them to be told (twice) by the club secretary that they're not thinking about that tie yet is bemusing.

Don't you worry Jimbo, we've been in touch with Penicuik's secretary long ago. Arrangements for the tie are already in place.

We're grateful for norwichbobby's kind offer of ideas about where our supporters could go before the game, and we'll maybe discuss that with him next week.

Come on, Glensmad. Never mind concentrating on the work you have to do for the next game, sort out the pub for the fans for a game a couple of weeks away! Get your priorities right!!

All I was saying was a polite response would have been sufficient rather than a TV interview like trope about one game at a time. The lad took time to come on to the thread to engage ahead of the fixture.

Jimbo, you seem to be more upset about this than the Penicuik fan is, since he has green dotted my reply.

The first bump in the road for our new young squad, but no complaints, Blantyre deserved their win today. We were nowhere near the standard that we've been at in the past few weeks.

But results elsewhere meant that we stay top of the league table for at least another couple of weeks, with The Scottish Cup and the Scottish Junior Cup dominating the fixtures next weekend.

Mustn't grumble.

That was a huge opportunity missed for us today, as Penicuik Athletic weren't great, but we were very poor, and a shadow of the team we've been in the league until last weekend. So we're out of The Scottish Cup at the first hurdle again and, although it's very much a bonus competition for us, it would have been nice to get through in a tie that we would have won had we played to our capabilities.

We need to pick it up again now, it's back to league business next week and our first local derby against Cambuslang Rangers in the league for over five years.

First two years in the big Scottish.

Got to say Rutherglen Glencairn have been been real unlucky with both cup draws. I'd like to see the draw being a wee bit kinder to Rutherglen in future.

Yep, you're not wrong. Without being disrespectful, a wee draw against the likes of Fort William or Wigtown and Bladnoch wouldn't go amiss.

We have tough draws in the other cups as well, away to Benburb in the South Region Challenge Cup, home to Troon in the Scottish Junior Cup and away to Campbeltown Pupils in the WoSFL Cup.

We made hard work of that today, but derby matches are very rarely easy. We played right to the end of both halves though, and got our reward with our first goal on 45+3 and then the drama of our winner on 90+7. Cambuslang's goalie was taking an eternity over everything from his first goal kick in the 5th minute onwards, so the added time was fully justified.

So we stay top for another couple of weeks at least, and the smiles were back on the supporters after two recent defeats.

It was great to see a big crowd as well, Glencairn v Cambuslang always brings the locals out, and no SPFL fixtures and great weather really helped keep our bank manager happy. 🙂

It was also great to see some former Glencairn and Cambuslang playing and committee legends in the crowd.

Another encouraging thing for me is that we have already played the four teams immediately below us in the league table, and three of them away from home as well. We're also four wins out of four at home so far, which is a refreshing change as, while we only lost three out of fifteen home games last season, we drew seven. Turning these draws into wins like we did yesterday could be very important for us at the end of the season.

Here's hoping anyway. It's still early days. One game at a time. Next up it's a South Region Challenge Cup tie away to Benburb, who are in really good form. That'll be a big test for us, but we won there at the same stage of the competition last year, so we'll give it our best shot with our new young squad.

That was a hugely encouraging performance and result for us today.  Away from home against the 5th placed team in the Premier Division, and we chose to make five changes to last week's team, including four players getting their first starting appearance of the season.

We won away to Benburb by a 3-goal margin at this stage of the South Challenge Cup last season, but we expected a tougher task today with Benburb being in good form in the top league. To repeat that outcome and keep a clean sheet this time was very good to see.

It certainly makes Joe's selection for next Saturday very interesting.
