RuMoore
After their narrow by-election win where ulez was a big factor the Tories are really going full throttle anti Green agenda right now. I think they've misjudged this strategy, sure Big Brexit Barry will be happy to stick a finger up at the woke climate change lot but climate change is increasingly a topic which the electorate care about more and more and even the ones who don't care or think it's a load of shite don't seem to get as wound up or incensed like other topics that get them frothing at the mouth like trans issues or refugees.
Wee-Bey
A vote for Labour/SNP is a vote for Just Stop Oil and their woke agenda to stop patriotic Brits using are preshus fossil fuels.
Dan Steele
It's the wrong kind of oil, probably foreign, the good stuff wouldn't have refilled in just ten years.

Melanius Mullarkey
Anyway, to the surprise of absolutely no c**t: Sunak’s family firm signed a billion-dollar deal with BP before PM opened new North Sea licences https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/sunaks-family-firm-signed-a-billion-dollar-deal-with-bp-before-pm-opened-new-north-sea-licences-353690/
MONKMAN
We need oil and gas in the UK and will continue to do so for generations, as we're not going to transition away from fossil fuels for decades. We might as well extract it from the North sea and sustain the 10's of thousands of jobs and the economic benefits that go along with it.
GTG_03
There's none left. Davie Cameron, George Osborne and Sir Ian Wood said so ten years ago. I presume all the old rigs are currently being decommissioned. I mean, they wouldn't lie to us...
O'Kelly Isley III
It's really quite simple, Tory electoral self-preservation trumps considerations on the preservation of the human race.

Jeff Venom
Saw a clip from C4 news tearing a hole out of the announcement with data on how much oil and gas is imported and exported by UK and what other nations are involved. I'm not sure if C4 are hostile now towards the gov thanks to the sale attempt, or if they're just doing basic journalism.

git-intae-thum
The top image is of the city of London, taken from Greenwich, in 1980. The second from the same spot in 2020. I’m pretty sure government spokespersons actively avoid being interviewed by C4.

Some of our climate change comes from America and China.

We will continue to need while people (especially those in power) keep repeating the mantra that we'll always need it. There are far too many spineless politicians and councillors scared to make unpopular decisions.

This will be their tactics for the next election. bash the green agenda and peddle their culture war bullshit. The next thing to go no doubt will be the plan to stop sales of new petrol and diesel cars after 2030.

You'd get tens of thousands of green energy jobs if you actually took it seriously. What next? Start digging up coal to burn ?

A masterplan that has worked for 50 years. It’s a finite resource but it won’t “run out”. The economics of exploration, production and selling it will determine how long it’s economically viable for. Those are affected by technology (both oil related and substitutes) and the global economy. It’s perfectly consistent for North Sea oil to be part of an energy strategy until 2050 but for its economic benefits to drop off well before that. There’s also been a fairly seismic in geopolitics that means we can’t be as reliant on overseas supplies. I’m not suggesting that Wood was right (predictifying something like that is a mugs game) or that Sunak is anything but an opportunistic money grabbing c**t. Just that there’s no reason for two different people to have the same view on the future of the oil industry a decade apart.
