Hearts Vs Thistle - Sunday 20 August

Atrocious display from Thistle and some mindboggling tactics by Doolan to have 9 men behind the ball from kick off in a knock out cup tie! Looked like we were playing for penalties from the start. The feelgood factor that the manager has is slowly but surely evaporating! This is going to be a long, long season!!

I was surprised how poor Thistle were.

It's a long time since we've had an easier game than that.

I think you will find a lot of Jags fans were not surprised at that display! We are going down faster than a porn actress!!

I didn’t expect us to win today. Getting Hearts at 1.8 on Betfair was a gift and I justifiably filled my boots at those odds. That said, I really didn’t expect that level of performance. Hearts turned up, did their job at a basic level and absolutely schooled us. A tame, weak and pathetic performance from everyone in a Thistle shirt. Another ‘point and shout at others’ effort from our senior players while contributing the square root of f**k all themselves.

I’ll give Doolan time, but I make that three weeks in a row where he’s looked a wee bit out of his depth. A worrying start to the season.

That's a shame.

I was saying at the game I couldn't believe this was a team a bawhair away from the Premiership last year.

Yip, we might have kept a few of our better players had we went up and maybe recruited better but on that display we would have been whipping boys in the top league.

Very frustrating getting undone by two corners.

Not done much going forward, but I think we’ve done ok enough against a side that would absolute walk the championship.

They would walk the championship but that doesn’t excuse our lack of effort and the fact that we looked to be the team that had ran themselves into the ground for 98 minutes against very tough opposition on Thursday night

To be fair we were able to rotate the squad quite heavily so Kye Rowles is the only outfield player to actually play 90 minutes in both matches

I noticed the flag disappeared.

What happened?

Somebody took exception too it and took it down and flung it to the pitch-side, behind the goal.

I don't think there was a lack of effort - it looked like the instruction was not to engage and stay in shape and make Hearts try to break us down. It worked to an extent I suppose - most of Heart's chances were from set pieces or us making egregious errors. We were just beaten by a side who're comfortably better than us in every single position.

Second half was worse, and particularly after the fourth I do think some players chucked it. Not having the chat on twitter about it being an all-time worst performance though.

We changed end at half time so I was near the thistle fans in second half

There seemed to be some disturbance and a lot of I’ll will towards the stewards early after the break

what was all that about

A classic case of stewards being p***ks, I believe. Was behind me but it seemed that they were attempting to chuck someone out for no reason in an overly aggressive manner.

Some Hearts fan has supposedly got it now.

Really didn’t expect us to win today, but we made it far too easy for Hearts with some absolute atrocious  defending. Williams/Muirhead can’t be expected to play out from the back, as neither are particularly good at it at our level nevermind playing a team above. I’d imagine Lewis Neilson will come in for a start next week (obviously unable to play today). Reality is Hearts could’ve played crocked Craig Gordon in goals today and walked away with a clean sheet, as bad as our defending was we never got going in attack either, even when we’d have a bit of possession going someone would completely over hit a pass or pass it out the park and Hearts were immediately back on top of us.

Cracking support though, just unfortunate the football on the park was so poor. No complaints from me if THAT flag has mysteriously gone missing at Tynecastle.

No matter what, it’s unacceptable for us to go to Tynecastle and sit with 9 men behind the ball from the first minute, in a knock out cup tie. We were set up to take it to penalties from the outset. Go out and have a go for Gawds sake! That one was on Doolan today and there are signs that fans are beginning to lose patience, even this early on in the season. We are weak all over the park barring the full back positions. It’s going to be a slog this season!

I thinks Hearts played some decent football without getting out of second gear today. Vargas looks a really clever player and Offiah was better than I thought he'd be.

We just have better players than Thistle,  I thought they tried to play decent football even though they sat in. No once up front and probably nit aggressive enough but I think you'll do well this year.

Trying to frustrate Hearts and hit them on the break - which was clearly the plan even if it didn’t work - is a perfectly legitimate tactic. They’re one of the best sides in Scotland, and we’re a bang average championship side.

Sorry but I would rather we went out and had a go and at least created something than lose like that. That was an awful performance and it flies in the face of the Doolan mantra, since he came in, of we only play one way…attack!!
