Not only could this be devastating for Iceland, but this may have a massive impact on climate, air quality and travel plans over the next weeks, months and years.

I’ve read that they don’t expect the same impact on flying as there was in 2010 but guess we may find out soon.

“In 2010 there was a massive eruption at Eyjafjallajökull when over 95,000 flights were cancelled all across Europe during the six-day airspace ban, with later figures suggesting 107,000 flights cancelled during an 8-day period, accounting for 48% of total air traffic and roughly 10 million passengers.”

Did Iceland give a shit about us when Arthur’s seat and largo law were erupting. No, they did not. f**k them, they knew what they were getting into when they built a country on volcanoes.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to some of the more alarmist takes. The 2010 Eyjafjallajokull incident was so disruptive as a volcanic mountain erupted under a massive glacier, water expands to several hundred time its volume when it comes into contact with lava, pulverising the surrounding rock into fine particles & propelling them to high altitudes which could've clogged jet engines.

If/when this happens, it's likely to be a fissure eruption, basically the ground splitting apart & lava/gases being released through an open wound (Kenneth!) in the terrain. Obviously bad news for the town of Grindavik but the damage/disruption to infrastructure should be localised.

Totally agree with what you say. Guess we will have to wait and see.
No doubt religious people will be digging out their REM albums.
