Jacksgranda
I've been at more Burns Night functions here than I ever was in Scotland. Are there still Burns Clubs/Societies?
Salt n Vinegar
Haggis neeps and tatties may well become shite, but at the eating end of the deal, I like them. Equal quantities of each for me please, the larger the portions the better. Cock-a-leekie soup to start, with Scottish cheeses to finish, with appropriate quantities of malt whisky = braw! Burns' suppers are held all over the world, so they must be doing something right. I've done the address to the haggis, the immortal memory and the toast to the lassies and attended many other suppers as a non-speech giver and they are usually great nights out.

The only interesting fact I found about Burns was that, other than being a "tap shagger", he was alive at the same time as Thomas Telford. And the young Walter Scott met Burns. There is a plaque on the wall of a tenement in Guthrie Street recording the fact. Work colleague: Aye, Chris down the stairs is a Burns re-enactor. He gets a lot of work at this time of year. Other work colleague: What exactly does a Burns re-enactor do? Me: Gets pished and shags all the wives..

Specialising in curtains.
Raidernation
Can't get haggis here, apparently the US FDA doesn't see it as fit for human consumption. I do actually like haggis and used to love a good haggis pudding supper. Tonight I will be having mince and tatties as the closest alternative. Nea neeps, they're shite!

DiegoDiego
Unfortunately, the best I could do. The locals warned me it should only be drunk mixed. I explained the sad, stubborn, principled stance I take on such matters, while they sullied their lagers with energy drink. Slainte fucking mhath to the lot of you!
jamamafegan
Don't care about Burns and don't care for his poetry. I do however enjoy this occasion and like to treat it as a night of being 'traditionally Scottish' so to speak. Therefore, I will enjoy my haggis neeps and tatties. Also going to make cranchan and have a couple drams of Dalmore 15.

There’s a canned brand called Stahly’s - it’s made in Glenrothes - seems to have the heart and liver but not the lungs. You can get it off US Amazon; I’ve seen it on the shelves in Texas, but not anywhere near Chicago.
Richey Edwards
I tried vegetarian haggis and it was actually pretty good. Obviously you can't beat the real thing, but in its own right the veggie stuff was decent.

And yet half the adverts on us TV for a variety of drugs have warnings all over the shop saying there's a relatively high chance (more than you'd like for something that's supposed to help you anyway!) it will cause further issues and possibly death! God bless America!

Stahly's was originally a butcher in Kirkcaldy, the man that started it Fred Stahly was retired when I worked in his house. I was struggling to move furniture on my own when he said in his Scots/German accent 'Oot my way son' Then the 5' 5' guy in his late 70's made light work shifting 2 wardrobes and a cast iron bed out of the way to let me near a hatch in the floor.
