Blowin In the Wind
Well done to Glenrothes tonight. But a woeful and gutless performance from Broxburn. That’s now two cups they had a great chance of winning gone by the wayside to relegation strugglers (who thoroughly deserved both victories). Winning the league will paper over some of the cracks but they have let what could have been a great season slip from their grasp.

Good luck to them in the next round. Strange team selection from us, could be injuries, work or suspensions? We seemed to turn up tonight for a preseason friendly and forgot it was a cup tie.

Haddington hammered Glenrothes 7-0, ten days ago. Just shows that you cannot take any result as read. Great cup win for Glenrothes

Terrible attitude tonight and you have to say the management have to take some of the blame for this. After the disappointment to Inverkeithing you would have thought they would have got them up for this. But it appears not. Maybe the league is all they care about but a lot of people turned up tonight paying good money to see that dross.

Maybe the league is all they care about but a lot of people turned up tonight paying good money to see that dross. Spot on. I was on a long weekend trip in the Highlands, but made sure we left earlier than we usually would so that I could get to this game. I wanted to see us put one over on them after our last display against them and I wanted to see us progress through in a cup that we really had a great chance of winning... again putting it right after our last cup tie. But we got most of the first team on the bench and clearly management not prioritising this cup as never turned to them when we were struggling. The very rotated team and system had a lot of the ball, but did very little with it. Too many touches, too many passes, too often just slowing the play and not getting any shots away. Our goal was a deflected pass into the path of Downie for a massive deflected shot to take it past keeper. In contrast, the space we allowed Glenrothes at the back they took full advantage of. Bursting down wings, quick balls in making sure they got shots off and a couple of really decent finishes too. Well done to Glenrothes on a well deserved victory. Broxburn are just limping towards the end of the season, looking to just fall over the finishing line to win the league and put aside all else to get there.

The worst thing was so many of them didn’t look interested given a good chance to prove what they can do. Felt sorry for the keeper who was at least trying to keep them going and was pretty much blameless on what was going on in front of him.

Certainly didn’t do Glenrothes any harm last night, but I do take your point that for some, relegation/promotion will be the priority.

No I don’t really subscribe to that. The wins at Dunbar and Dundonald wrapped up the league (even if not mathematically). Last night was a chance to add icing and a cherry onto the cake but they failed miserably. It was a similar story against Inverkeithing a couple of weeks back. It maybe a long season has caught up with them but it’s been a real struggle for a bit save an excellent performance away to Tranent and Dunbar in the last few months.
