Boness United 2024/25

Didn't see the game, but with any young keeper it's always a steep learning curve stepping into real football. I think out of all the positions it's the one that needs the most actual in game experience to thrive because the jump from playing with fellow teenagers to men who are going to use every bit of experience, muscle and dark arts to get one over you is massive and it's not like your defensive or midfield partner can walk you through the game and cover your mistakes. It's why so many goalies don't establish themselves until their mid-20s and often peak in their 30s.

I enjoyed watching our young under 20's centrehalf Finlay Godfrey battling against the experienced HoB striker Dan Watt.  Dan probably won the battle but the youngster did well and will learn valuable lessons from the experience.

The first 20 minutes was poor. Very sloppy, slow and couldn’t string 5 passes together, but once they settled a bit and started playing football we looked the much stronger team. Second half was much improved.

Both trialists looked dangerous at points, especially liked Sokari who should’ve had more than one goal.

Mitchell should easily be getting 20 goals or more this season.

First half hour the BU midfield were poor, Fin Malcolm couldn't hold the ball up front and Shaun Rutherford at left back was rank rotten.

Thought we were fortunate to go in level at halftime.

Second half Mitchell at 9, Porteous in central midfield and more pace on the wings made it a more enjoyable watch.........but that was largely down to Tom Grant.  Took the ball, kept off challengers and played some great passes to put the BU attackers into space and create danger.

Tommo is the man.

Campbell played about a total of 10 games for Kelty & I think one for East Fife at first team level. He'll absolutely need some time. He'll come good.

Would much rather Hawkins or McAuley at left back and hope Hunter feels the same. Rutherford just spends too much time injured

Keir Macauley is the best left back in the league IMO.

Rutherford is consistently capable of hitting a long pass or cross but in every other aspect of left backedness (made up word !!!) Macaulay beats him hands down.

Musa wants a crack at the SPFL but hasnt signed anywhere yet, apparently played as trialist for Spartans recently. Ruddy clearly wasn't up to the standard required. Heard rumours of an Andy Murphy return but clearly those were nonsense

Slightly surprised Musa hasn't signed up somewhere yet, saw he was posting a YouTube highlight video he'd made the other day. Hope he gets something as given the standard of keeping in the lower leagues he'd have a good crack at making a go of it

I heard from a very good source he is at Spartans and most likely will be signing there

Good move for him and i'm sure after last season they will be looking to push for promotion.

Wish him all the best.
