Can people stop pretending the starting 11 wasn't the right starting 11 because of purely how the performance ended up?

The performance in general was shit and that's why what happened did. Gilmour would of got on the ball and had f**k all to do with it, he doesn't have the engine or defensive ability/physicality to play in a 2 man midfield against that German team.

I don’t think Gilmour’s inclusion would’ve made a huge difference in the end given the red card but surely to f**k you start him this one. He’s the one guy in that midfield that can slow the game down and keep possession when they are getting on top of us. Starting Christie over him was criminal IMHO.

And so he should be. Germany are much better than us, but that was an absolute humiliation. A complete annihilation. You'd have been forgiven for thinking we were playing with 10 men even before Porteous was sent off. Germany did their homework on us and we had no answers. The gaps in defence and midfield were found time and time again and we are a bit fortunate to have gotten out of that without setting the record defeat at Euros match.

Ralston, McGregor and Gunn were particularly rotten, but does anyone deserve passmarks tonight? For me, no.

Really weak mentally from the players tonight. Watching it was clear as day no player felt brave enough to offer for the ball in tight spaces, pick a pass, take a man on, gamble.

Playing for rangers or celtic simply isn't good enough at this level, and the more players who go abroad the better.

Spent a lot of money and potentially wasted my annual leave watching that no mark performance, scotland at tournaments eh?

Short and simple,  our manager is totally out of his depth,  always has been , lucky boy with players available.  Anyone who would not start Gilmour in this game should be fired on the spot.

At least any form of hope was extinguished almost immediately instead of suffering soul-crushing misery in the last minute or something. What an absolutely shite performance from every single player, a complete and utter bottle job.

I have no faith whatsoever in these gutless clowns picking up anything other than bookings in the remaining two games.

Nobody apart from Tierney , maybe Robertson , seemed capable

although the Germans really knew how to press

It wasnt the right starting 11, beginning with 3 at the back against a lone front man while 2 sitting mids need to deal with 3 fluid attacking mids was bad enough, but when one is callum mcgregor who has been found out time and again above spfl level is absolute madness

He should have started with a 433, the 3 sitting mids of mctominay, Gilmour and mcginn, shankland up top with adams and another energetic runner as the inside 10's, that not only closes down all space in front of the back 2 that germany literally spent most of the game in, but gives an outball up top as well that isnt a lonely b*****ding striker who is closer to the fans than his teammates,

Germany would still likely have been too good as the likes of ralston etc would have been absolutely ripped apart all night, but at least stifle their main outlet which was the 3 attacking mids

That first half you'd have been forgiven if you though scotland weren't playing a midfield

We talk about biased commentary but I’m watching the BBC highlights of the match and both commentators initially make no comment about the terrible tackle Porteous makes.  The co commentator then describes the actions of Porteous as “understandable”  No excuses for that tackle.  Terrible by Porteous.

Did he get asked about

1 )  why the defense and midfield could not cope with their forwards finding space so easily

2 )  was he expecting their press to be so " aggressive " ?

Thanks

Four five one , rather than 4 - 3 - 3

Game was crying out for Billy Gilmour from kick off. He's the one guy that will constantly show for a ball even when you're getting pressed like that and he'll move it on. Twice now Clarke's been caught sleeping in the first game at a Euros.
