DrewDon
It might be useful to factor in the increase in the population across those years, and by association the electorate, when attempting to analyse those figures.

AUFC90
If you accept a share of the UK national debt in GBP and then run up more GBP then we are in the same hole as the likes of Argentina with large debts in a foreign currency. You can't vote your way out of that. You just know the UK government will play hard ball with asset negotiations which will leave Scotland walking away with zero debt or in the unlikely event that the UK government aren't a bunch of c***s, a share of BOE assets, foreign assets, mulitary assets. Plus if you think Scots are going to take a share of debt that was accumulated building Aircraft Carriers and high speed trains with nothing to show for it you're even more deluded than your previous account.
AUFC90
They created their own currency. Most of created their own currency after transition....ehm exactly what an independent Scotland would do. But aye we're not truly independent like countries such as France and Italy who have their own currency.

Detournement
Owen Jones suggesting that RLB should have apologised to the Israeli army is a new level of cravenness. They murdered a man on the way to his sister's wedding yesterday FFS! He must be getting worried about his Guardian job.
welshbairn
Will it just take one of the thousands of American cops trained by Israel to say that one of the restraint techniques he was taught was the knee to neck method, clearly one of their favourites from photographic evidence, for Keir Starmer and Margaret Hodge to deeply apologise to RLB and Maxine Peake? Or is any mention of Israel in less than glowing terms now seen as anti semitism worthy of a sacking? Granny Danger
The Zionist lobby will be beyond delighted that Starmer’s Labour Party is publicly promoting the line that criticism of Israel is anti-Semitic. I hope they will lose the support of many more thinking people. -
YassinMoutaouakil
That's me left Labour. Been grappling with it since St*rmer came in but there's no fucking justification for this.
ICTChris
This wasn’t a criticism of Israeli policy. It was a false claim, attributing the chokehold that was used to kill George Floyd to Israeli training. That isn’t true. Linking Israel to the death of George Floyd is conspiratorial nonsense. It’s a typical trope that you see these days - something bad happened, eh? Israel are behind it! -
pandarilla
Holy shit. What a horrendous decision. Is there anyone on here defending starmer here? I was very much giving him the benefit of the doubt but that article is in no way anti semitic. He's just blown up the labour party.

It's an absolutely gargantuan leap to interpret Peake saying that US police departments are trained by Israeli forces, and being factually incorrect about whether choking with the knee was part of that training, as being tied to antisemitic conspiracy theories about Jews orchestrating world events and provoking racial violence. Anyone looking at those words and jumping to those theories needs to work on their reading comprehension; the idea that she's blaming Israel for the death of George Floyd is insane and no one reading in good faith believes that. It would also be more believable that Starmer was acting in good faith if he didn't have a Nancy Astor enthusiast in his cabinet.

Benfleet is in the Castle Point constituency in Essex. Created in1983 it has only went Labour once, in the 1997 landslide. It currently has the largest Tory majority for any seat won by Labour while they were in power between 1997 and 2010.

Do you have evidence of this, given that thousands of American police have been given training in Israeli techniques, of which this is clearly one? I'd imagine it would be passed on fairly quickly to colleagues after the course, if included. Edited June 25, 2020 by welshbairn

She specifically said that the knee on neck choke technique used in George Floyd was taught by Israeli secret services:The tactics used by the police in America, kneeling on George Floyd’s neck, that was learnt from seminars with Israeli secret services. She didn’t say that police departments shouldn’t train with Israeli police or mention anything about that. She said clearly that the knee on neck technique came from Israel. Blaming things like this on Israel or Mossad is a trope.

Or if this was one technique out of all the others they chose to omit from their training programme, and she drew the wrong conclusion, would that be a mistake or evidence of antisemitism?
