Quote

The recent history of the Labour Party means that any comment which seems to downplay the experiences of Jewish people is toxic, especially when it comes from a prominent figure associated with the Jeremy Corbyn era.

Under his leadership, concerns that antisemitism was on the rise culminated in the party being investigated by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and being found to have acted unlawfully.

They’re still utterly obsessed.

She's obviously a clumsy as f**k walking PR disaster

In the letter, she wrote that Irish, Jewish and Traveller people "undoubtedly experience prejudice", which she said is "similar to racism".

She continued: "It is true that many types of white people with points of difference, such as redheads, can experience this prejudice.

"But they are not all their lives subject to racism.

"In pre-civil rights America, Irish people, Jewish people and Travellers were not required to sit at the back of the bus.

"In apartheid South Africa, these groups were allowed to vote.

"And at the height of slavery, there were no white-seeming people manacled on the slave ships."

The general point appears to be that black people have historically suffered racism to a greater extent than white people, which let's be honest here, isn't all that inaccurate. However chucking in the bit about redheads is Gianni Infantino levels of stupid.

Do MPs not have PR people they run this stuff by before it goes public? Christ.

Dianne Abbott is genuinely so thick.

That's a bit harsh.

She has now distanced herself from these remarks made by em, err....... Diane Abbott

Like so many in the Labour party, (and the Tories) there's two things I don't like about her - her face.

If she had said that then there wouldn't be an issue - however, she said that the Romani, Irish and Jews faced prejudice not racism - genuinely a crass and highly insensitive comment to make.

She sealed her fate here by listing a number of historical facts whilst omitting the systematic murder of millions of Jews during the holocaust. Over 100,000 Romanies were murdered also by the Nazis.

I don't believe she's been clumsy here either. She is genuinely this stupid.

I think I know what's happened with Abbott. There was a Frantz Fanon quote that circulated Black Twitter somewhat recently. It was widely misinterpreted as downplaying antisemitism and the Holocaust in comparison to anti-Black racism. Abbot was likely one of the many who misinterpreted it. Folk could quite easily have sourced the quote and read the entire passage from Fanon, understood the context and therefore the meaning (even I managed to do this), but folk are sloppy and too trusting of Tweets. We know Abbott is plugged into Black Twitter because her interactions on it have made the news before. So my guess is Abbot was trying to channel the wrong idea she got from misinterpreting that quote.

Baddiel led a national campaign of racist mockery against a random Black footballer in the 1990s. Should that disqualify him from now taking a leading role in the witch hunt against Abbott? Of course it fucking should. Worth noting too that no Jew will suffer any repercussions whatsoever from Abbott's stupid letter. However, Abbot's Twitter feed will no doubt be a torrent of anti-Black racist abuse for the next couple of days (not from Jews but from the usual white identity men who harass her any time she's in the news).

It was a daft letter to write and even although her comparisons were correct from a purely factual point of view, making them was always going to bite her on the arse, especially with Keir Starmer and his band of sharks circling her raft. She only has herself to blame really.
