Bellingham the PR specialist going round hugging each England player (including hauling some up off the ground) as a performative "I'm the man" gesture was fantastic by the way. One thing in the whole tournament from the golden boy but got to get those clips in so the pundits can talk about how "mature" he is and how much of a "leader" he is. Chortle.

This shite would piss me off so much if I played with him.

There was one game where Kane missed a chance, and Bellingham came over and ruffled his hair and consoled him. All I could think is what the f**k are you doing, you arrogant, condescending little p***k? If I'm the 30 year old captain of my country, record goal scorer and one of the best strikers in the world for the past decade, and some wee 20 year old scrote pulled that shite I'd lose the rag with him.

May be reading too much into it but I thought his post match interview with BBC re Southgate could be loosely translated as ‘nice guy, lot of respect for him owe him a lot but…we need someone better to manage us’.

Not sure it was even that disguised and felt a bit disrespectful.

Sometimes it's tough supporting Anyone but England

The Iceland game was great but it had been 37 days of hurt for us since then. But we never stopped believing

England suffer shock defeat to Iceland in final Euro warm-up | Flashscore.co.uk

On the other hand we do have a 34/35 success rate in major tournaments so musn't grumble

I don’t see it. If they wanted international management, it would be of their own national sides. I get the sense they are both a bit patriotic and It’s not like they’d be managing a bunch of diddies in either case, despite what’s said, Germany and Spain have squads that are every bit as good as England’s.

Pep's a Catalan nationalist, isn't he?

At least Cole Palmers one word answers came from him being gutted and not because he was trying to get rid of Southgate.

Guardiola won’t get the Spain job, apparently, because he’s a Catalan nationalist. I don’t know if it’s that he wouldn’t take the job or that the Spanish FA won’t give him it on that basis. He has been linked with the Brazil & Argentina jobs in the past.

Speaking of the Spanish FA, would the #scenes have been even better last night if they still had that mad ex-Hamilton b*****d as president? It’s not for me to say…

Spoiler

But yes. Yes they definitely would’ve been.

Oh maybe, I don’t know his political views. He played a lot for the Spanish team though and I thought I’d heard it spoken about that he might want to manage them one day, I may have been wrong there though.

The main takeaway from this game is how much more developed tactically and mentally other countries are in comparison the UK. And I mean that in terms of individual players, not managers and coaches (although that's also evidently true). Zubimendi and Fabian running rings around the most expensive midfield of all time. Was an absolute piece of piss for them. England is up there with any country in the world on a technical ability perspective, but they don't have the minerals or game knowledge that yer Spains, yer Italy's of this world do.

That Goldbridge guy was new to me so I had a look at his Eck's (formerly Twitteurgh) account. England have better players than Spain. Any decent manager would have 'walked' Euro 24 with England's players.

The Sense of Entitlement is strong in that one. But some of his btl commenters are even more deranged.

Much as they've been poor all tournament, I think it's wishful thinking to believe they're just genuinely not that good.  Much as their value is inflated by the circus that is the Premier League, they have genuine quality in a lot of places.  The difference was Southgate's conservative choices meaning they were using their shiny sports cars to pull tractors through fields.  It's a slightly similar problem to ours, in that if they stumble across the manager that can unlock the puzzle, they could really get success.  We're probably good enough to make tournaments regularly and get through groups, but Steve Clarke didn't do a good enough job with his approach.  Their squad, on paper, is good enough to give the likes of Spain a game, but Southgate would rather persist with injured and out of form players for fear of it going wrong.  If they got a balls-out madman who found the formula, they'll win a tournament.

Much as he looks like his skeleton is trying to escape his skin, and he's probably too nice to be in the position, lifetime contract for Sir Gareth of Knitware please.

Like Clough or Redknapp who they turned down in the past

England don't have the players to play the way that Spain do. Can you imagine Rice, Mainoo and even Bellingham keeping possession ticking over the way that the Spanish midfield did last night? Not a chance. And this was Spain missing Pedri, Gavi and for 45mins Rodri as well.

That's why they play the way they do. It is miserable and terrible to watch, but it did what it had to and got them to the final, where finally a good opponent put them to the sword. What this doesn't explain is the largely rubbish performances of Saka and in particular Foden, who both had excellent seasons for their clubs. In the absence of being able to dominate possession, England rely on these players to add the attacking spark and they failed to do that. Possibly this failing is on Southgate and his approach to the game, but the players themselves were quite simply below par.

Are you saying Spain are terrible to watch? 🤔

Pep is never going to manage Spain for this reason so if he ever wants a shot at international management it might likely be England considering he already lives there and speaks the language. Hopefully Argentina give him an offer at some point to stop this from happening.

As much as it was nerve wracking at the time, that really was an utter battering - especially second half.

Another problem England are coming into is their strikers. By the next euros, Kane won’t be far off 32, and both Toney and Watkins will be 30. They’ll be fine for that tournament obviously but there isn’t too much left there.

Kyle Walker has had a woeful tournament, but surely this will be his last. Trippier is only a few months younger so he is surely done too. That leaves them looking towards Trent as a starter at RB (particularly if Southgate stays on as White is out the picture)

At left back Luke Shaw is increasingly injury prone and will be 31 by the next tournament. They definitely need a refresh in a few areas.

IMO, they need someone more technical on the ball in central midfield too. I guess that could be Mainoo though, if he continues developing.
