Bands that were everywhere and then disappeared

The Grid were a much hyped indieish techno outfit until they put out a novelty banjo record that killed them off. Apparently still kicking about.

My mate had booked Richard Norris (the half of The Grid that isn't Dave Ball out of Soft Cell, and who is still ridiculously prolific) to play a house gig (rather than a House gig...) last year, but it fell through due to logistics.

I'd be more interested in knowing if they still play this live or have enough self-awareness to notice their own lack of self-awareness:

That was one of my favourites tbh and certainly one I could relate to with the company I kept as an 18-20 year old. Doesn’t look like they’ve played it love for some time though.

Come on man, they were formed in the 80s and are still playing gigs. They also released albums over a 20 year period. Almost as bad as your Radiohead shout!

A lot of folk just naming bands they liked then didn't like new stuff, or that they just didn't hear the new stuff at all.

You're probably right. Just getting old I guess.

I went to see Arctic Monkeys in 2018, just after they brought out the album about a space hotel. Most of the new stuff was a cue for folk to go to the bog or bar

Can I say something?

Tranquillity Base Hotel And Casino is an excellent album and by far their best.

I enjoy both it and The Car but they are far too different and wanky to be their best.

The Car was utter toilet for me, despite liking TBHC, not a fan at all of it. Thought they knelt far too into that wanky side that TBHC dipped its toes in. It did not get the balance right in the way TBHC did. There's also probably an element of me being an edgelord and seeing other people hating it, which makes me want to like it more.

There's a conspiracy theory that Michael Jackson got the record label to hold D'Arby back because he saw him as a threat.

That's bad.

2/3 of these boys have disappeared when will Ed call time?

And Plan B had 2 completely different albums made 2 films and then was never heard of again.

The Corrs saturated the airwaves with boring music for a few years, then vanished.

They're touring this year £100 a ticket.
