btb
England are where you wanna be in a Test Match - 397/4 off 108 overs, seen off second new ball and with Pakistan's bowlers flagging (they've just brought on Azhar Ali) England's plan must be to score quickly and get Pakistan in shortly after Tea (to state the bleedin' obvious!). 427/5 at lunch - ideal situation for England if they can post 500+ and use Anderson, Broad & Woakes in short, hostile spells. die hard doonhamer
Double for Root. Stokes given out on review. How he can give that I've no idea, did not appear to be conclusive and surely doubt goes with the on field decision?
Bearwithme
Root finally out for 254. Great innings. Good catch. England bat on - for how long?

die hard doonhamer
England declared on 589 after Bairstow got out. Solid first 5 overs for Pakistan though Jimmy was close to getting a caught and bowled in the first over.
jmothecat
Pakistan 112-7.

die hard doonhamer
It's raining again at lunch with the covers back on. Hopefully it clears quickly. ETA: rain now stopped and cracking sunshine!
Savage Henry
Absolutely no doubts that England will enforce the follow-on, right?
dogmc
Absolutely no doubts that England will enforce the follow-on, right? Apparently not.....surprised tbh
Savage Henry
Apparently not.....surprised tbh I'm amazed. Quick fire 150 then stick them in tonight?
mjw
Follow on seems to be a thing of the past now. England to bat till stumps then two days bowling at Pakistan?
dogmc
I'm amazed. Quick fire 150 then stick them in tonight? Yeah....its still a decent pitch and if they aren't 100% about weather I'd want as many overs as possible to bowl Pakistan out. If they lose time to rain n Pakistan escape with a draw it'll be a sore one. Would think with 4 seamers n a spinner bowlers should still have plenty of energy.

India made West Indies follow on yesterday. Not something Cook & co do too often though. Coming off for rain!
mjw
And there is the rain.
dogmc
And there is the rain. Makes decision to bat even more surprising
Bully Wee Villa
Attended Bears Pears today and was lucky to meet a guy in the queue who flogged us two tickets for a tenner. We battered them. Come on you Bears!
peasy23
I can't for the life of me think of any good reason not to enforce the follow on. It's Manchester, it's going to rain. I'd have put my house on the last day not being required if Cook had put Pakistan back in.
mjw
There isn't a single person commentating who can explain what Cook is doing here.
