die hard doonhamer
Sri Lanka all out for 135, the lowest first innings total ever at Galle (previous worst 181). An abysmal batting performance. Bess picks up 5 wickets without bowling particularly well, but that should do his confidence a world of good.
HibsFan
England 17-2 already. Maybe 135's not looking so bad anymore.
die hard doonhamer
50 for Root, England now 96-2 after that wobbly start.
die hard doonhamer
Root and Bairstow get through to the close, with England's highest partnership at Galle. They are 127-2, trailing by only 8.
Fuctifano
Decent quiz here if you're interested Got 111, Nelson did for me https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/53352074 Of the 11 that I missed I think there was only one that I should have got.
Jimi Shandrix
Mmm.. might give the rest of this a miss and just wait for the final test between Aussies and India. Sri Lanka are different level pish just now.

peasy23
England pulling clear, now at 254-3 with Root on 124 and a superb debut knock by Dan Lawrence who is on 61.
jaggyness
Labuschagne had a couple of lives but again batted superbly for another century. Also Nathan Lyon becomes the 13th Aussie to reach 100 tests
peasy23
Root passes 8000 Test runs and is still there on 226, but England have lost 5 wickets this morning already.
peasy23
England 421 all out with Root going for 228. Only Kevin Pietersen has reached the 8000 run mark on less innings.Poor finish from England slipping from 372-4, although given how poor the home side were in the first innings I doubt it will matter.
peasy23
Australia had a similar finish to England, going from 311-5 to 369 all out. India were 62-2 when rain stopped play. Inspection due in a few minutes to see if we get any more play this morning.

peasy23
No more play in Brisbane, early start tonight to make up lost time.Sri Lanka underway trailing by 286, unlikely that England bat again imo.
jaggyness
England toiling now, pitch isn't doing much and wickets looking unlikely

Jimi Shandrix
Is it fair to say if Tim Paine wasn't the captain he probably wouldn't be in the Australian team? He is a very poor wicket keeper.
peasy23
This hasn't been great from England's bowlers this morning, once again Root looks more dangerous than the actual spin bowlers. Nothing in the pitch for seam or spin tbf, but that's when the bowlers need to step up with consistent line and length. Sri Lanka edging towards taking a lead.
peasy23
And right after I posted Bess and Leach get a wicket apiece, and we are now reviewing another shout.....
peasy23
..which was missing the stumps. 302-7 at tea, home side lead by 16 with a bit of rain in the air. The bowlers got better as the session went on tbf to them, tough shift in the conditions.
