PB1994
Malan and Root both out before the new ball. I imagine that kills the game. Edit - didn’t realise pope was out as well. That’s it done. Edited December 11, 2021 by PB1994

Clockwork
Steve Smith's unorthodox, but his technique is nowhere near as much of a dog's breakfast as the likes of Hughes or Burns. The difference is that Smith’s unorthodox technique works, (even though it’s still questioned), he still scores big runs. Burns’s technique is poor and he doesn’t perform. It’s impossible to compare the two. England really in the dog shit now at 234-5 still trailing by 44. The only thing left of any interest is how long Stokes and Butler can delay the inevitable?

Smith is moving about all over the place before the ball is bowled but he is normally quite still when the ball is being bowled, where burns is doing all sorts while the ball is on the way to the bat. No idea if they are right about that though tbf.

peasy23
It’s Fox that are the issue. Broadcast is out in Australia as well, apparently. I've been through lots of channels on the firestick where the cricket should be on and nobody has it at the moment. Lots of shite getting talked in various studios.

No idea if they are right about that though tbf.Don’t wish to be harsh on Burns, he clearly has the game just to have reached test standard alone, but he’s exposed at this level. He can’t possibly judge the line, when his movement is so erratic on the popping crease just before the delivery stride. The most talented of batsmen can anticipate the line & length of the ball in a split second against the true quickies. Burns isn’t one of them.
peasy23
Stokes edges one from Cummins and is caught, he was all over the place tbh.
peasy23
Buttler edges one to Carey, wafting outside off stump at one he has to be leaving. 7 down and still 10 behind.

Boo Khaki
England lose 5 wickets for 45 runs today. They are pathologically incapable of not collapsing.
peasy23
England all out for 297.Morning session saw them score 77-8 from 30 overs.Carey equals the record of catches made on test debut by a wicketkeeper with 8.
Clockwork
The Aussies have done what’s required in the high expectations of the the first Test. Game over in the early throes of day 4. It’s disappointing to feel that much of the rest of the series (as a competition) will go the same way. Congrats to Nathan Lyons on 400 Test wickets btw, a great competitor.
Boo Khaki
Completely predictable outcome, but it's still disappointing how regularly England collapse, how regularly they fail to capitalise on platforms, how regularly they have entire sessions or days in the field where they fail to take chances and/or do nothing with the ball, and how frequently they gift the opposition wickets with total nothing shots at balls that they have no need whatsoever to play at. I think it's a combination of the majority of the side simply not being good enough, but they're also straight back into that mire they wallowed about in for most of the 90's and early 2000's where they are just entirely deficient in mental aptitude. I always thought that once England went full-steam ahead with a determination to compete in white ball cricket that their red ball cricket would suffer, and I think the biggest symptom of that is the fact that they don't seem to have a single batsman anywhere in their extended squad that can acknowledge a game situation, knuckle down, bore the shit out of the bowling attack, and just grind and grind without gifting their wicket. It's all crash, bang, wallop, playing at innocuous deliveries outside off, and trying to 'counter attack' in completely inappropriate situations. If they are lucky the weather might save them from being whitewashed, or the Aussies might turn up still half-pissed for the Test after they wrap up the series victory, but on that showing I think a 5-0 is nailed on. Aus didn't even have to get out of second gear and still won by a landslide margin.
peasy23
To make matters worse for England, they aren't even getting paid for that shitshow. The amount of faffing about that goes on both from batting and bowling sides has got ridiculous tbh. Just one example, England start their second innings the other night and Hameed faces the first few balls then scores a three. Burns then comes on to strike, and spends a minute or so sorting out his gloves. You've only just come out ffs, you should be ready to play.
