AberdeenBud
edit as original post was incorrect re: 9 centurions It has only been done five times previously in Tests, by New Zealand against Australia in 2004-05, a World XI against Australia in 2005-06, South Africa against New Zealand in 2005-06 and India twice, versus Australia in 2007-08 and England in 2012-13. No team have ever fielded 10 centurions." All relatively recently, shows how lower order batting has improved by leaps and bounds in the modern game.
btb
Edit: what the heck have they done to Trent Bridge? Usually it's the best track on the circuit, but this is flat as a pancake. Why didn't they prepare one to swing? That's what every home country should do. Prepare pitches to suit your own bowlers. Unless England feel their bowling can't take 20 wickets, in which case they've prepared for a draw... I think a lot of the grounds are more interested in 5 days play than 30-40 wickets falling. IIRC counties now have to bid for Test Matches (unsure about Lords) so the onus would be on getting 5 days play and gate receipts. Bully Wee Villa
All relatively recently, shows how lower order batting has improved by leaps and bounds in the modern game. Yeah. Lower-order batting and fielding are light years ahead of what they were thirty years ago.
Savage Henry
Yeah. Lower-order batting and fielding are light years ahead of what they were thirty years ago. Yep. To be fair, England used to be atrocious in the field. Hussain as captain decided to do something about it, and it really has become ingrained in the team. They are now one of the best fielding sides, and standards right across the board have improved. Apart from Pakistan, obviously...
Savage Henry
India are just bowling puddings here. Looks like both sides have written this off as a draw. Give India's position, that's a bit surprising. 112/1 with Ballance and Robson hitting boundaries at will.
die hard doonhamer
Robson goes LBW to one he edged. Yet again we're talking about DRS. I think the other test nations should refuse to play India until they accept it. Edited July 11, 2014 by die hard doonhamer
Savage Henry
Robson goes LBW to one he edged. Yet again we're talking about DRS. I think the other test nations should refuse to play India until they accept it. Yep. The ECB should surely be the ones to decide though, given the ICC seem to be allowing teams to make it up as they go along.
Bearwithme
Not sure Robson edged it. Think he may have hit his pad. England bring up the 200 for 5. Wickets have been tumbling this afternoon.
Bearwithme
Prior gone now. Didn't look like he hit it. England's figures since lunch 71-5. Now Stokes has gone for a duck! 202 for 7,
booitsme7
England still need 56 runs to avoid the follow-on.
Lex
Are England the worst test side in the world?
Savage Henry
Are England the worst test side in the world? Not remotely close. It's a transitional period, certainly, but they have the makings of an excellent side if they can find a spinner. As things stand, despite the pitch, this has all the makings of an excellent finish. Root and Broad, and now Root and Anderson, are making a bit of an inroad. If England can get within 50 of India's total, there could be a good finish. Umpires have had a mare today though - got more wrong than they have right.
jmothecat
Quite enjoying this partnership. A couple of good shots for Anderson and Root looks composed. Trailing by over 100 still but things are looking better than they did half an hour ago.
Savage Henry
England at stumps 352/9, which is a deficit of 105. Considering they were 298/9, they'll be the happier of the two sides - notwithstanding a horrendous middle order collapse, which will probably be enough to see Ali lose his job. Anderson and Root batted out for over an hour, putting on 54 unbeaten for the last wicket. Strange, strange game.
booitsme7
This partnership for England is a record for the 10th wicket against India in test matches beating the 70 put on by Bob Willis and Paul Allott at Lord's in 1982.

Savage Henry
Earlier in the thread someone brought up how the tail ender has changed. I think Anderson represents that - England's best bowler, best fielder and a genuine number 11, but he can still bat a bit. The days of genuine rabbits are over.
