Bearwithme
England collapses are far from unknown of course. But fair play to them if they manage to see it out for a draw.

I don't think the UAE should be allowed to host tests until they've managed to produce a track that offers at least something. There's not even anything for the spinners out there.
mjw
Cook almost played on to his stumps in the first over so their habit of throwing away wickets might not be completely cured.

Before this series they had won 4, drawn 4 and only lost one, to Australia in 2002/03.

peasy23
Ooft. Drama as Cook has a play and miss quickly followed by an edge that falls short of the slips. It's not much but it's the first close call since he almost played on yesterday. Edit: just as I pressed send Moeen is out.
Savage Henry
If anyone really likes watching Alistair Cook batting for long periods, today's going to be your chance. He's on 112 and looks like he could bat all week. Bell's looking pretty solid too.
mjw
Yep. Nothing in the pitch at all. Nightmare debut for Rashid with the worst figures ever for a first test, 0-163.His performance is being put into some perspective now. Geoffreys mum could bat on that with a stick of rhubarb.
Savage Henry
Atherton makes a good point. If the point of this series is to encourage the growth of the sport in the UAE (otherwise, why else hold it in Dubai?) who the hell is going to be enticed by this kind of cricket? Unless you love test match cricket, in which case you'll watch anything, this is dull as ditchwater. HTG
This is utter shite. The pace of the pitch is dreadful and starting 523 behind, England aren't going to give any fucks about taking risks to move the score on. Just abandon it and if the rest will be like this then they'd be as well coming home. Pish.

I'm enjoying it in the same way as I enjoyed Chris Martin taking the piss repeatedly out of a Gibraltar defender the other night, but yeah, I absolutely see where you are coming from. This test is going to end with either Ian Bell or Jos Buttler getting a test wicket. Edited October 15, 2015 by Savage Henry
die hard doonhamer
If Cook is still there at the end of tomorrow then England shouldn't bother declaring. No chance of a result on this and he would have the world record in sight,
booitsme7
Ian Bell out for 63. England send Mark Wood in as a nightwatchman and he just hit a 4 through the slips.
booitsme7
Nightwatchman out. Joe Root is coming out to bat now.
booitsme7
England end day 3 on 290-3 trailing by 233 runs.
peasy23
Nightwatchman out. Joe Root is coming out to bat now. I just don't see the point of a nightwatchman, especially on a pitch that offers as little as this. Cook has looked for the most part as if he could bat out the rest of the 5 days.
Savage Henry
I think England should try and get 1000.
peasy23
What's the record? 950 odd or so iirc? Just bump it around for another 300 tomorrow then go for it on day 5.
