Second on the field as a sub for the injured Markram. If SA do what they did in India when Markram got injured, they’ll promote De Kock up to open with a wicketkeeper (Second) coming in at 7. However with the possible return of Bavuma we might see something different. Also Pieter Malan waiting in the sidelines for a debut.

Edit - Burns gone, reviews it though

Sibley out for 29, Maharaj with a c&b. Sibley’s top score so far. I know it would be nice to have an opener averaging 40 but if Sibley can do what he did today most games, occupying the crease for a long time and help build a near-100 partnership then he’ll do for now.
I think for the openers batting time is just as important as scoring runs, with the ball they use down there if you can hang about for 25-30 overs then you are making it a lot easier for the guys coming in after you.

Philander off to Somerset after the series is done.
Was certainly the rumour last weekend. They are also saying that Smith and Boucher have virtually begged Dwaine Pretorius not to sign a Kolpak deal in England, and it seems he will stay in South Africa.

Given it’s likely that Pretorious will make way for the returning Bavuma in the next Test so that SA meet their ‘transformational race targets’ that they failed to meet in the first Test, I wouldn’t blame him for going.

New Zealand 38/3 on Day 4 at Lunch. Pattinson melting through their top order taking 3 wickets (Latham, Williamson duck, Taylor) in just 2 overs.
Australia won by 247 runs in the end, NZ batting a man short with Boult injured. Not that he would have made a big difference.

Peter Siddle has announced his retirement from international cricket.
