carpetmonster
Have you ridden this carpet monster? I haven't, I only have MTBs, but it looks a fair chunk of bike for the cash. Can attest to the brand's quality; have a 2002 Rift Zone that's still going strong.
Unleash The Nade
I know I apologise but these details were only established after we went round halfords, evans and decathalon late last night. I was saying it tongue in cheek mate, no worries!. To be honest, you'll get different advice from lots of different people on here, recommending bikes which suit them, but not necessarily your dad , or anyone else. Best thing to do is set a maximum budget, decide exactly what type of cycling you want to do, then get the best kit you can for the money. Most important thing is get the right size of frame and don't let any shop salesmen try and palm you off with a bike that's too small or large, just because they're trying to get rid of it. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/h/option/bikesizeguide Also bear in mind when budgeting, cost of helmet, clothing, pedals, lights (if required) etc
Unleash The Nade
Opted not to go out on the road bike yesterday as thought the roads would be too dodgy ,so went up the bike trails at the back of the Falkirk Wheel / Lionthorn Estate . I can manage 70-90 miles on the road no problem , but after just 20 odd miles yesterday, feel like I've been given a serious kicking as working lots of different muscles!. Any of you who live in the area and fancy giving it a go, I can thoroughly recommend it though...great fun

The problem I find is it's straight into hills without a warm up and I'm f*cked after 15 minutes. Gogs Grog
Wear a skull cap (polaris make it) under the helmet. Also have the neck thing pulled up so generally only my eyes are visible.

I have a thin-but-warm balaclava thing. I believe it's sold as for under a motorbike helmet. Aff amazon.

RiG
We had someone from a local bike shop come into work and have a wee look over our bikes. I've mentioned before about howling brakes. The EBC assured me it was just the brake pads that were the problem however this chap on inspecting my bike has said that both the pads and the discs themselves are contaminated so they could do with getting replaced. Any advice on a good set of pads / brake discs?

Bold Rover
I just know one of my pals on here will be able to advise. On Sunday, with Mrs Bold away with her pals, and my cycling buddy Bold Jnr away with his children, I intend to take the train to Haymarket and cycle back to Glasgow along the canals, starting at Fountainbridge. I wonder if it's straightforward or if there are hazards along the way? Can one get lost for example? And the canal in Glasgow goes through some dangerous territory, I wonder, me being a proper shiter and all?
AberdeenBud
After some further research and discussion with local shop I've upgraded to the Crosstrail '15. Collecting tomorrow, can't wait.

Is that the Specialized, as advertised on here by UtN? A review please, when appropriate.
ScottR96
Looking for a bit of advice troops. Want to get my fitness back up and get into cycling - but have genuinely no idea what I'm looking for in a bike. Not had one since I was about 13. Any tips/advice? Working on a budget of around £300 or would I have to be spend considerably more than that to get a decent (safe) bike?
