peasy23
Congrats Adrian Ortaegui, another superb round of 63 and 10 birdies to go with the 62 he posted on Thursday to take the Scottish Championship at Fairmont (-23). Some incredible approach work today!
quickoverayard
Playing Goswick on Sunday and looking forward to it.... meant to be 20mph winds with gusts of 30mph so should be very challenging. This new handicap system is confusing the life out of me to be honest, I’m hoping I get a handicap adjustment because I’m down at 10 and I’m first to admit I’m not a 10 player.... shot 77 on Saturday in the medal but I’d say 1 in every 5 rounds I shoot to my handicap! You know how you get those golfers who are happy to have a lower handicap of what they actually are!? I’m not one of them I want a handicap that’s honest so I’m hoping 14.... yes I can shoot under 80 but I can also be into high 80’s I’m not trying to be a bandit I’m trying to be honest
Distant Doonhamer
Played in the Wednesday sweep. Drove the ball well but really scrappy from the fairway. That said I scrambled incredibly well including holing putts from off the green for pars at 4th and 10th. 2nd shot landed in a ditch on the par 5 14th but somehow bounced out. Scrambled another par. Had at least another two great up and downs on other holes and had a couple of lucky breaks when could easily have lost a ball. Standing on 16th tee two ahead of handicap. Sadly finished double bogey, bogey, double bogey for a frustrating 35 points. There was an element of my luck running out as I got a couple of awful lies from decent shots. Generally 35 points very satisfactory but a real feeling of a big chance missed. That’s golf I guess.

peasy23
Scottish golf are currently posting an article every day to try and explain the new system. https://scottishgolf.org/handicapping-homepage/whs-education-for-golfers/

My best ever round is 77 but I could go out the morn at shoot 9-0
lichtie23
I asked this on a Facebook group earlier and wondered if anyone here can help as well.I see you can use recreational rounds now which is a good thing as some folk simply don’t like playing in competitions or don’t have the time at the weekend. It says you need to “pre register” your round. Does anyone know how you do that? Is it just through the club? Or do you do it via a website/app?
Distant Doonhamer
In my lament about throwing away a good score with a terrible finish yesterday I forgot to include that my tee shot at the par 3 13th hit the pin and rolled to about 4 feet away. I missed the putt for the two [emoji23]

I've been wondering this too, this would suit me well to submit my scores for casual rounds but I don't think it's been well explained how to do this. It's listed as one of their goals from this change to make it much easier to obtain and maintain your handicap which I think is great. But I don't think they've made it entirely clear as yet what you do if A. you aren't a member of a club and B. you are a member somewhere but don't have an official handicap as yet.

I like that you can maintain/improve your handicap playing with your mates. Makes it easier and a little less daunting. But as you say it’s not been explained very well

Pretty sure the plan is for there to be an option on the Scottish Golf app to sign in before the round, then enter the score after, similar to what some clubs currently do on ClubV1/HDID

Distant Doonhamer
Played the New Course at St Andrews today. As always in immaculate condition. Great fun. Played reasonably with highlight a birdie on 12th.

Honest_Man#1
Bit of fun, how many have you played of the Top 100 Courses in Scotland? A paltry 5 for me, which I plan to bankrupt myself in rectifying.

I would hope not. My understanding is that the point of this new system allows you take your handicap everywhere and apply it on any course so it'd be a huge own goal if they didn't allow non-members to get an official handicap. They'd be the most likely to play wherever they fancy on a particular day and therefore take advantage of the handicap's flexibility to be used on any course. Edit to add: I've been undertaking an effort to play Scotland's top 100 myself. Currently at a 4 but only started this year. My 4 are Newmachar Hawkshill, Nairn Dunbar, Moray New and Fraserburgh.
