There was a typhoon that hit Chiba prefecture last month and some areas still don't have electricity. There is a lasting effect and believe it or not, contrary to what's been say on this thread, people do actually die in typhoons.  I live on the West coast of Shikoku (an island South of Honsu (the main island) and we're having everything shut down for the typhoon.

Can’t you just relocate for a few days?

120million people migrating every time there's a typhoon/earthquake/tsunami is the only sensible option really.....

I expect it might be a bit tough actually seeing as how it's apparently impossible to move a few hundred with three days notice....

Are you actually aware of the geography of Japan? It's a big country but it's mostly mountains and forests, with most of the population condensed into Tokyo, greater Osaka (Kyoto, Nara, Osaka), Kobe and Shizuoka.......these Cities are all in close proximity to one another. A bit like Scotland's central belt in many ways.

They could move the game to Hokkaido's Sapporo-dome but the baseball team is playing there this weekend. Hiroshima and Oita like Matsuyama is getting hit by the typhoon. Where do you suggest they move it too?

Move the baseball, it's even worse than rugby.

Again, that would beg the question,

Why the Hell are we having a World Cup in this country in the middle of typhoon season ??

The World rugby calendar dictates when the WC is played. If the game is to grow beyond the traditional tier 1 teams, Japan and Argentina need to be given the tournament.

Perhaps they could have had fewer qualifiers (4 Nations per group) and factored in spare days but that's hardly fair on the lower ranked Nations either. Tough call.

Maybe one of the places where the games are going ahead this weekend?

Might have been possible pre-1945....

Japan and South Korea are in the middle of a trade war at present....... highly unlikely to come to Japan's rescue on this one!

At this rate it's unlikely the World Cup will go anywhere that isn't nice and safe again. This farce will damage the sport. Can you see many Italians thinking it's worth giving a f**k about this morning after they've been kicked out the tournament? What do you think would have happened if New Zealand had been the tram needing a win to qualify?

I agree that it's a shit situation. The other option is to condense the group stages by playing Sat/We'd but they'd need massive squads for this.
