pozbaird
Haven’t read the entire thread, so apologies if this has already been mentioned. Someone told me yesterday that prior to the tournament taking place, all the competing nations signed contracts with World Rugby. Part of those contracts covered the cancellation of games, and how points would be awarded. All nations agreed to this and signed the contracts. Now, if this is true, that was the time for concerned nations to say ‘no, not signing that, we should look to move cancelled games, or delay them by a day or two, and if that cannot happen, then cancel the game and void the result’. Apparently, Scotland signed up to exactly what might have been the situation with our game against Japan today. A kick in the baws for any nation unlucky enough to have it happen to them, but frankly, just a case of ‘nae luck’. Is it true that all nations signed contracts that agreed pool games, cancelled in the event of fire, flood, pestilence, typhoons or Dave King turning up at Narita airport, wouldn’t be moved or delayed, but declared null and void? If so, why did we threaten legal action and go full-on ‘big hoose must stay open’ on everyone?

IMO its down to Gibbens being an extremely lazy openside - never first to the tackle, usually spends most of his time standing 10m away from any ruck hoping to get the ball to run at a back to look good, as if he puts in a few good breaks people dont notice how little work he does during games

Was last over in 2018 and spent a fortnight in New Zealand too. I found the Kiwis to be friendly folk, very much like Scots. A bit like comparing Canadians to Americans, with Kiwis being the Canadians, to the brasher Aussies being the Americans. This is clearly a massive sweeping generalisation. In sporting terms, while I like Kiwis and Aussies, the All Blacks, and the Aussie cricket team, can fcuk off. DeeTillEhDeh
It's not the cancellation but the fact that there was going to be no attempt to shift the game - as they apparently did try with New Zealand - it was NZ who said No - the Italians were not even asked.Where's the fairness in that?

My understanding is that the participation agreement stated that contingency plans were in place to deal with this sort of thing. However the contingency plans apear to be (rather than move the game given the 3 days notice) waiting to see how bad things are on the day then making a call.

There are differing reports on that, some say NZ offered to play on Friday, were told no, and weren't asked again.

Yeah, in fact that o'driscoll p***k still has the audacity to be a bit upset about that time two kiwis picked him up and tried to break his neck. Fucking sook.
