Samoa centre Rey Lee-Lo and hooker Motu Matu’u have been cited for acts of foul play contrary to Law 9.13 (dangerous high tackle) in Samoa’s Rugby World Cup 2019 match against Russia on 24 September.

The players will attend hearings before an independent Judicial Committee chaired by Wang Shao Ing (Singapore lawyer and former international player), joined by former international players John Langford (Australia) and Olly Kohn (Wales). The hearings will take place in Tokyo on the same date to be agreed with the players and their representatives.

Samoa winger Ed Fidow has received a Citing Commissioner Warning for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.12 (punching or striking) in the same match.  This remains on his disciplinary record in the event that he accumulates any combination of three warnings or yellow cards during the tournament.

Lost 46-7 against Italy, makes me nervous to see how bad we will get smoked by New Zealand and South Africa

Canada butchered 5 or 6 chances 5m from the line, the game was definitely closer than the scoreline suggests.

But yes, NZ and SA are going to obliterate you.

Strongest team we have available. We can win if we play our best. Cheetahs won the Currie Cup so are decent and deserve respect but the Pro14 is surely a step up. They have Ruan Pienaar at 9 but I'm hoping at 35 he's slowed slightly. Fagerson's sound at 8 but I thought Ashe would be in the squad. My only quip is Glenn Bryce at 15. I'd have him starting on the bench with Jacko at 15.

Edinburgh v Zebre could be close and go either way with both teams hit heavily with the WC.

Cheetahs is probably about the worst fixture we could have had at this time - the other European teams are in the same boat of having lost loads of players to the world cup, which the SA's wont have, the Cheetahs are coming off the back of the Currie Cup so are already at full match fitness, whereas we have only played a couple of warm ups with 30 odd man squad. SAying that its a strong team we have out, which usually does well during Nov / 6N's

Spot on. The Cheetahs will target everyone at home early season. They'll have competitive match fitness on us as well as playing at altitude. However I'm hoping that in the Pro14 we'll provide a bigger test than the Currie Cup. Still a strong team considering the absentees though and Dave Rennie with back to back Super Rugby titles with the Chiefs knows this opposition.

The pack looks strong and Jones and Grigg should be a good combo in midfield. Thomson and Frisbee will make or break these early games.

Thompson was impressive when he got game time. Frisbee is a bit like Laidlaw. He can take the sting out the game but not suitable for fast rugby imo...

Disciplinary update: Rey Lee-Lo (Samoa)

Samoa centre Rey Lee-Lo appeared before an independent judicial committee having been cited for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.13 (dangerous high tackle) in Samoa’s Rugby World Cup 2019 match against Russia on 24 September.

The committee, chaired by Wang Shao Ing (Singapore lawyer and former international player) with former international players John Langford (Australia) and Olly Kohn (Wales), heard the case, considering all the available evidence, including multiple broadcast angles and submissions from the player and his representative.

The committee deemed that the incident was an act of foul play and warranted a red card in line with the high tackle sanction framework. In following the framework, the committee determined:

There was an act of foul play (which was reckless, rather than deliberate)

The act of foul play was a high tackle

There was contact with the head

There was a high degree of danger

The ball carrier changed height, but not sufficient to mitigate from a red card to a yellow card

Given the above outcomes, the committee determined that the act of foul play warranted a red card and applied World Rugby’s mandatory minimum mid-range entry point, which was introduced in 2017 to mitigate the risk of head injuries, carring a minimum six-match suspension.

Having acknowledged Lee-Lo’s disciplinary record, good character and conduct at the hearing, the committee reduced the six-match entry point by three matches, resulting in a sanction of three matches.

Lee-Lo will miss Samoa’s three remaining pool matches. The suspension will end at midnight on 12 October after which he is free to resume playing.

The player has the right to appeal the decision within 48 hours of receiving the written decision, which can be read here when available.

Frank Hadden in that article!  Haven't heard his name in a long time.
Did he just vanish from rugby all together after his gig with Scotland? Albeit apart fae sitting on disciplinary councils for the RWC.
Not sure but a quick Google search brings his name up on the odd article about disciplary panels during international competitions and moaning about the SRU
