Watson showed what we've been missing when he came on. He carried better than Strauss, tackled better than Ritchie and jackled better than anyone. Last season we were all about turnover ball and fast counter attacking. This season we've had no turnover ball to counter from. From that point of view surely Hardie was worth a try at some point?

Tbf it seems like there are less jackal turnovers this championship and this season in general. Players have gotten very efficient on the clear outs and the refs are very liberal on the angles clearers use ie allowing clearers to enter straight then clear at 90 degrees.

The lack of a yellow on the final maul penalty was baffling.

The result was disappointing but when you look at the lack of experience in the team and the centre combo it was probably inevitable. Kinghorn is a complete liability defenisively shouldn't be back in the XV until he sorts it out. If Hogg doesn't make the WC it should be Maitland or Hastings at FB.

Kinghorn doesn't look interested in defending. We looked much better with Hastings at FB. I don't what's happened but we really miss Dunbar at centre. Watson was our best player yesterday and he played less than half the match. Forwards offered next to nothing, backs had the odd break but nothing to write home about. Tbf I feared the worst before the game so picking up a losing bonus point is more than I thought we would get

Ireland 1st try should probably of been chopped off for double movement, they are almost constantly offside, only penalised once in the 1st half and constant backchat from the Irish players yet the Irish fans think the ref is not helping them

Seymour, Hogg and Kinghorn all out for England.

Shaun Longstaff and Cammy Murray called up as replacements.

I was just going to ask if anyone on here had experience of playing full back or on the wing. Can't see anything other than a gubbing unfortunately. We would have been up against it with a full squad, but now we are looking at 3rd and 4th choices in a few positions then it's going to be even harder.

Is Lee Jones still injured? Steyn looked very ropey defensively.

I think Hughes would play ahead of Steyn.

Is Hughes in the squad? Unfortunately he seems like one of those guys who are never going to be fully fit again. Can't remember the last time I saw him finish a game.

Is Maitland still out? Jackson, Maitland and Graham wouldn't be the absolute end of the world I suppose.

In fact, you'd probably go with Maitland at full back with McGuigan on the wing if possible.

The Herald having a dig at the SRU over the Steyn call up and the whole SRU development team.

Didn't realise it was quite that bad, but only 12 of the 60 / 70 odd scotland players in and around the squad come from outside the private school / borderers / developed abroad which makes pretty grim reading and just shows how far we still have to go development wise. There isn't much detail but would be interesting to see how this relates to numbers through the various levels of the fosroc academy structures as it looks like nothing much has changed in terms of getting average kids playing rugby (outside the borders)

They are missing some players on the list and some of the non Scots came through the Scottish Rugby Academy

Lewis Carmichael - born in Edinburgh went to North Berwick high school

Peter Horne - born in Aberdeen went to Bell Baxter High School in Cupar(as did Chris Fusaro)

Duncan Weir - born in Rutherglen went to Cathkin High School in Cambuslang

Jonny Gray -  born in Rutherglen went to Calderglen High School in East Kilbride

Ali Price - English born with a Scottish mother developed by the Scottish Rugby Academy

Also some of the players that went to private schools started of at state run high schools but were offered scholarships due to their rugby ability.
