  1. A fairly harmonious and balanced match thread, WTF has happened to this place 😂.

Having time to digest that and watch the goal back, it's as satisfying a 90 minutes as we can reasonably hope for at home In this league, keep the other team out and take one of yer chances.

Yes we came Into this league uphill but I'm hoping the players take real confidence from the games at home so far, we've certainly not looked out of place (apart from the Arbroath game) and Rhys recognises that was a disaster last week and made the calls yesterday to rectify it. I've no problem with a bad performance, as long as the efforts there to right the wrong, the next week.

Thought we were poor, but easily could’ve won. Millen and Brown had uncharacteristic off days and Mullin was anonymous. I know he does a power of work but when Stanton goes off it just killed us. Him and Hamilton going off at the same time basically ended any hope of getting a goal.

Masson, it’s a hard one. He needed to come on today but the downgrade from Watson to him is mammoth. He was at fault for the goal, trying to win the ball way too high up the park and leaving a gaping hole he never got back into to allow Gallagher to score. Wasn’t surprised he was a subbed sub. And therein lies our weakness. You can have all the forward players you want but if you lose a centre half in a game and don’t really have an adequate stand in it’s going to be difficult to win football matches.

Not too disheartened. Airdrie did well, played their little triangles to get out of the press in their own half and scored when they got the chance. Be really interested to see the foul not given on Stanton when he’s in in the first half. Seen those (and a lot less) given and red cards shown. Equally thought Easton could’ve had a penalty in the first half. Stanton’s effort off the post almost goal of the season. Any one of those goes our way it’s a different game. Never mind, onto next week, still been a great start to the season.

Edit: I actually thought it looked like Brown and Millen were unwell. Never seen Brown so lethargic and lacking in energy. Wouldn’t be surprised at all to hear that was the case.

    Really good post.

I thought that was 2 fairly even teams that were going to be separated by a nice bit of play or a horrible mistake but fair play to both sides, there wasn't a lot of "errors" in the game.

I was disappointed we never got at Millen a bit more especially after taking the earlyish booking.

Big Hamilton upfront put a real shift in and his touch and movement are excellent but it seemed he never had much support there.

We'll play better and lose for sure at some point, so, happy to take the 3 points and move on satisfied.

Cheers, hoping to be there not long after 2pm, that way we have plenty time if we can’t get parked in the car park. I have only ever rocked up a few minutes before kick off for an away game and that was due to traffic on the A9.

Genuinely if you don't fancy paying to get in the car park, there's plenty streets round about (including my own) that are absolutely fine and within 5 mins walk...  holly Street, willow drive, bankhead avenue, crowood, then in Petersburn there's plenty on Varnsdorf way and the streets just off it 👍

I wasn’t there today but McCabe and McMaster has rarely worked together and I don’t think Frizzell works well as a number 10, he’s much better coming from slightly deeper. One of McCabe/McMaster (I think the latter for getting us higher up the park), Aiken as a ball winner who can go up and down and then Frizzell running from deep is a much better fit.

I just think that we play better with McCabe at the side of, and McMaster, on, the pitch (at the moment, anyway). Aiken also took me a while to warm to, but he's a great wee player, a really good ball winner in the middle as well, another decent prospect coming through Hibs again.

Just seen the goals back, McCabe at the 3rd goal is an embarassment, it's either a lack of effort, which from the manager is shameful. Or he's not fit enough, which isn't much better.

I mentioned before the game he looked very rusty against UoS in the cup, letting guys past him, lazy legs getting stuck out instead of a challenge. He's made an arse of that yesterday with Aiken on the bench, I'd rather he took it on the chin, and move on to the next game, folk might actually respect that a wee bit more.

With the end of the outdoor season fast approaching, what are people's plans for the winter? My club offers carpet bowls over the winter and there's a carpet bowls league planned on weekday evenings.

I've never played carpet bowls but from what I've heard about it I don't think I fancy it.

Absolutely hee haw in the winter time! Me and my daughter have started going to the gym in July, she needed a hobby and she's not sporty so she enjoys that a few times a week. Half my outdoor club play at Coatbridge indoor in the winter but I've just no enthusiasm for indoor at all

  6. A funny game that, United came out flying and we never looked settled at all, injury to McMaster early really didn't help at all. Once utd scored they were content to let the Airdrie back line have the ball, and really nullified the space for anything, and a few times we resorted to the long ball, and against Gallagher and Holt, there's only one winner. End of the first half we created a bit and arguably our best chance that McGregor missed.

Second half for all our possession we didn't really do anything and utd defender particularly well and deserved the clean sheet

I'm definitely not disappointed with the performance, we gave a decent account of ourselves but that final wee decision in and around the box has to be a bit better.

As someone else said, our season won't be defined by games against utd, but I enjoyed my day tbf.

That too, but there definitely were people saying how we were in danger of getting off to a slow start if we didn't sign players early enough. There were some comparisons to last season and people saying we couldn't afford another slow start (even though we started very well last year). I remember replying them.

*Hands up* I was one of the ones saying "we cant afford to get off to a slow start", but I've also maintained the mantra, I wont complain until it costs us.

If we're still picking up points fielding 10 fit players, Hutts in goals, Prunts up front and Stuart Millar in the dug out, I'll still bite my tongue.

I think most people, like Ammo's post above says, are now just at the point of trusting that the manager and the club know far better what they are doing than any of us, so to just leave them to it and enjoy the season. If we get relegated due to having to play youngsters every week then I'll criticise McCabe and the club accordingly, but getting worked up over something that hasn't happened (and so far looks unlikely to) is pointless.

We'd been League 1's resident underachiever for the longest time, someone's came in, transformed the persona of the club to a younger, media friendly, hard working unit that 99% of fans are absolutely thrilled to bits with.  Its not just on the park, its everything OFF the park, prunts and friz soccer camp, wee Leon was absolutely b*zzing out his t1ts that week, players getting photos with wee guys in the Lidl when they appear, Cammy Ballantyne just walking about smiling all the time.  Its a good place just now, and see if we get gubbed on Saturday, fine, we'll dust down and look to prove a point the next week. We can moan all we want about things that MIGHT happen (as @Diamonds are Forever says) and yes I'm concerned about lack of depth, BUT, as I said in the Dunfermline game, I'll moan when its costing us, but moaning now is just for the sake of it.

  9. What a difference in a year or 2 btw, actual proper football chat on this thread rather than the odd post/moan here and there.

I might be in the minority, but I dont feel P&B is "overly" negative, its a bit more realistic and "proper" football chat, rather than the twitter/facebook pages.  I've tried to distance myself from getting annoyed at wee guys signing or lack of loans or shallow squad, because the fact is, this team just keep surprising me.  They've found a way to trump everything I've been expecting so for that McCabes built a lot of trust from me.

Its a hell of a ride just now, lets enjoy it because the managers not going to be here forever.
