  1. As stated above, Rangers brought approx 4100 fans last time. If they all bought adult tickets (which they didn't) it would be £23 a head - £188,600 across two games. Set against that we had between 2300 and 2500 home fans at the last Rangers game. The previous home game saw 4000 Saints fans through the door. Even if you round that to only 1000 fans lost and take that at an average ticket price of £15 (taking into account adults/kids/concessions) you're losing £15,000 x 2 = £30,000. Then take off Rangers' 5% and the added expenses and you're looking at a loss in income nearer £140,000 at an absolute maximum (and that's almost certainly a gross exaggeration) by losing their away support. And that's before you take into account a different team visiting McDiarmid Park twice a year instead. If it was Dundee who came up instead they'd probably bring between 2,000 and 3,000 fans for each game in the SPL, and you'd undoubtedly see a massive upsurge in the home support - probably above the 4,000 mark. Without getting into the merits of the derby element, Saints and Dundee fans love a head to head and I'd expect a crowd in the high 6,000 region, probably over 7,000 for the first clash at McDiarmid in the SPL in over a decade. So rather than losing money without their away support we'd pretty much break even. Maybe even make a little extra. And I'd far prefer a visit from Dundee than Rangers. A far better atmosphere and a much better game.
  2. Glorious weather forecast all week and I've got hardly any work on. Be rude not to play at least three times this week!
  3. That happened to me midweek. At one stage I was on the tee behind them as they were walking up to their balls off the tee. The guy was taking ten practise swings at every ball before hitting it 60 yards with his five iron from the middle of he fairway. Not once did they even acknowledge me or try to let me through. Pissed me off big time and put me right off!
  4. We managed no bother for a cup derby match with Nuremberg two years ago. If you know when you're going and plan ahead you'll be fine.
  5. Beer fest starts in September and runs to early October. If there's no bayern game there will probably be an 1860 Munchen game so you should get one either way
  6. You said October. Do Munich and squeeze in an Oktoberfest trip while you're at it. Be very early in the month and you'll catch the beer festival. And the legendary erotik messe (google it).
  7. Hit 100 today, which, although it was worse than my last round, I was actually pleased with as I probably played my best golf ever between holes 4 and 14. Unfortunately I blew it on 1, 15, 16, 17 and 18 meaning a potential 90 ended with 10 shots more!
  8. Is this further  material or is there some late movement from Brian Kennedy or something after he was said to be in talks with Whyte?
  9. I was giving myself par putts far more frequently yesterday and that's why my score came down considerably. I played through a Swedish couple early on in my round. I think they thought I was the club pro or something after they saw my tee shot when I went by them. I've never caught a shot so perfectly in my life, and the next time they saw my I hit another absolute screamer into the heart of the green from 150 yards. Next thing you know they're asking me all about the best way to play various holes on the course! Little did they know I was shanking most of the shots they didn't see!
  10. Finally broke 100 off the summer tees at my course today. Hit a 97, although actually still disappointed with that score given I was only on 90 when I got to the 18th tee and normally go down the final hole in five. Unfortunately stuck my third shot in a deep bunker beside the green and my chances of 94/95 went out the window! Struck the ball a lot better today and was picking the right club more often than not as well.
  11. Surprisingly not too bad. Wet in certain small patches but not nearly as bad as it was last summer.
  12. I played he north inch in Perth today. Was doing really well, on for a sub 100 round until I caught up to the group in front. Three old boys, slower than a week in jail, and no interest in letting me play through. I got more and more pissed off, which coincided with my scores going up and up. It was ludicrous, I'd get to the tee just seconds after they moved off it but I didn't get past them til the 17th, and even then it was grudging. As soon as I got past them I played my best shots of the round! Think I need to go back to my club's pro and look at my tee shots again, I've lost distance recently and can't figure out why!
  13. I met Doncaster last year when he was touring the country talking to fans reps about the 10 team proposal. My understanding was that he was meant to have an open discussion and take on board the views and input of the fans. Instead he laid out his proposals and asked for our thoughts. Instead of having a reasoned discussion he got amazingly defensive and refused to contemplate anything other than his own ideas. I was appalled by his attitude then and am utterly disgusted by it now.
  14. At my club you have to submit three cards after playing a round with a fellow member who already has a handicap who will mark your card and sign it. The club then calculate it. They will shortly give me a 28 handicap when I put in my next card! Just back in from today's round. Managed a 103, but really should have got under 100, and probably would have had I not hit a six at the par 3 17th... Two 8s on the 9th and 10th also cost me, which was really disappointing having hit decent tee shots on both.
  15. Think the Record have gone way over the top with their Hampden 3 stuff. Effectively questioning their credentials, naming them while all other papers have said they won't to protect their safety, and allowing Mark Hateley two pages of utter pish to whine about them.
  16. Fair play to you going out in the weather around here this week. I was in the car park of my club this morning as it looked like it was brightening up, then all of a sudden it started absolutely hosing it down so I turned straight round and went home. Hopefully get a game before the end of the week. My tee shots lately have been abysmal so hopefully I can turn that round and get back under 100...
  17. That's my thoughts too. Surely if the clubs best interests are at the heart of the administrators and/or buyers they want to restructure the clubs finances over the next season, get back on an even keel and make things better in the long run. But all the talk seems to be about having a competitive team NEXT season. What?!
  18. Me and my mate wanted to do the Edinburgh half at the end of may. We kept putting off registerig and finally went to do it last night-and discovered it had closed on Thursday! Idiots! Any idea if there's any way at all to get in? Charities with places to fill?
  19. Think there was a Dundee United fan who made a similar point above, but the nonsense being spouted by Chick Young about not punishing the fans but punishing those who got them into this mess really pisses me off. Those people were representing the club. For the most part they had the backing of the fans. They acted on behalf of the club and in running up those debts had a major effect on all the clubs in the league that played within the rules. My club spent seven years in Division One while clubs all around us were going into administration and racking up debts they couldn't possibly pay. Our chairman was laughed at for pointing out the Gretna "dream" was unsustainable. Rangers went out and bought the best players of all the other clubs with money they didn't have - punishing the fans of those more responsible clubs by stripping them of their best talent all the while rewarding their fans. You can't really separate those who were in charge with the club. As such, you have to punish the club who at the end of the day benefitted endlessly over those years thanks to non payment of tax, alleged tax evasion and the running up of enormous debts that could never be paid. Rangers FC must be punished for what amounts to the biggest episode of financial doping in Scottish football history. And Yorkston's quote just shows how out of touch he is with his own fanbase and the wider SPL fanbase. Surely Dunfermline fans will get him telt?
  20. James Morgan ‏ @jaydeemorgan (Herald's deputy sports editor) Blue Knights ready to "take a step back from" Rangers bid. Check http://www.heraldscotland.com/ soon for details.
  21. Interested to hear what you think of those irons. I had a shot of a couple the other day and quite liked the feel of them, could be worth a shot!
  22. I had my first lesson - focussing on my tee shots - and was hitting off the tee better than ever. Went for my second - and looked more at my iron play - and started hitting my irons a lot better. Unfortunately that has put me almost back to square one with my woods off the tee! Disaster
  23. That's absolutely mental. DHD - You've heard right, it is a hilly course! Hence the name. That said, you only have to play right up a steep hill twice on your round. Most of the time you're playing across the hill. It is pretty challenging though - if you're short on your tee shots that's where the hill comes into play as you won't get any kick on down the fairway from the first bounce, it will more likely come back the way. Some cracking elevated tees though (particularly like the sixth and the 13th). You feel like you're watching your shot from a high TV camera point!
