  1. Lonergan is a piss-poor keeper. I can't believe they've replaced Schmeichel with a no mark like him.
  2. Nope, Ryan Flynn is at Sheffield United. He started for them on Saturday.
  3. They brought three of them down from "Brockville" according to the commentator. Mitchell, Stewart and Compton. Stewart has been impressive so far.
  4. I'll have you know that I have well over 15 friends on Facebook.
  5. This is getting back into the unwanted "Which P&B posters do you have on Facebook?" chat. Let's divert ourselves back down the road of taking the piss out of other people, because it's much more entertaining.
  6. He's rubbish. Why do Celtic keep loaning him out instead of just getting rid?
  7. The welcome dinner for the U16 World Cup was underway, and something wasn't right about Nigeria's Abdul Okoronkwo.
  8. There's only two of them in the band, and the one I know isn't the brightest onion in the shed. I could be wrong though.
  9. You'd be as well saying "Like this if you're a single loser" Spelling Fail. Some might want to pass it off as deliberate, but I know one of them and I'm certain that it isn't.
  10. Hoogerland and Flecha ended up finishing 16 minutes back - still 5 minutes ahead of Cavendish, Farrar and Rojas though. It's a rest day tomorrow, so hopefully Flecha and Hoogerland will have a wee bit of time to recover.
  11. First time I've ever seen a car actually ploughing into a rider. Hoogeland somersaulted onto a barbed wire fence - but he's back on the road now.
  12. 6-0 6-0 6-1 v Alberto Martin in the 2007 Australian Open. He led 5-0 in the third too.
  13. The Luxembourger won 15 points in the entire match .
  14. There have been a hell of a lot of crashes today, including Sorensen being clipped by a motorbike. Boonen is the latest one to go down, which Cavendish might have a wee wry smile about.
  15. Evans pipped Contador on the line, but Hushovd holds on to the yellow.
  16. Perfect sense. It is one of these things which is easy to disprove, but impossible to really prove.
  17. The methods used for random number generation mean that it is not absolutely random, but is as close an approximation to completely randomness as is possible. The approximation to randomness used by computers now is so good that it would be very difficult to distinguish from a completely random pattern.
  18. The chance remains the same as any other combination. If your lucky dip came out with 10, 12, 15, 32, 41, 48 this week, then the following week the odds of that combination would be the exact same as the odds of any other given combination. That's assuming that the lucky dip machine is just a random number generator.
  19. I could never get travelling expenses back because my "parental contribution" was too high. I'm sure there could have been a way around it, but I never bothered trying. I've made my way through uni debt free and won't be contributing to the taxpayer for at least another three and a half years. It's great that students from all over the rest of the UK will be funding these sorts of freebies for us. I think my scholarship comes from outside the uni though, so they'll be pretty happy that I've got that one because it allows them to have an extra PhD student whilst paying out the same amount.
  20. My graduation was this morning, but it all felt very strange and I still can't quite believe that I'm actually finished. Enjoyed the experience though, even if the ceremony dragged on a bit. I had some good news recently too. The Carnegie Trust offered me a scholarship for my PhD which means I will now be earning around £1500 more each year along with other perks including a travel allowance which will let me claim for travelling from home. I don't know too much about it, but I was encouraged to apply for it by the guy who will be my PhD tutor, and it is apparently pretty prestigious, so I'm delighted. I also received two emails telling me that I had won prizes from Mercer and the Royal Statistical Society as the best graduate in 2010/11, and that Mercer would be inviting me for a celebratory lunch. I'm pretty chuffed with all that, although I'll be more chuffed if the prizes come in the form of nice cheques rather than something else .
  21. Did it tell you what the prize was? I won prizes for Maths in 1st and 2nd year, and they were book vouchers to the value of £25 and £50 respectively.
  22. One of my exams was absolutely hopeless. I answered about 70% of it, some of it without even a pretence of knowing what I was talking about, and I still got an A4 for it. And they say they don't scale our grades up if everyone does badly.
  23. I finally made it on, and I got a First . Straight As again this year
  24. I haven't had any of these problems in the past three years.
