  1. If it is / was Rangers then the £300k next year is the great unknown. All that said they seem to be throwing money around. Gives credence to the theory put forward by the former owner of Crystal Palace that someone somewhere is bankrolling them. Also depends whether they sell a few of their players such as Windass or Tavernier. Sadly that means they could probably afford Cadden. It all boils down to who if anyone is prepared to bid for Cadden and at a level we are comfortable with. Would much rather he went south but we shall see. If he does go the I would want Campbell to stay and he can be our big fee earner next summer. As for Carson - wow silly money being paid for goalies down south but a very good and dependable international keeper ? No rumours about him going anywhere which would be quite frankly baffling. But better for us and he has another 2 years left on contract.
  2. Meanwhile over on Steelmen there is a rumour doing the rounds that Rangers have made an offer for Cadden. Supposedly £800k but as per usual it would appear to come in the form of empty fizzy bottles and a few bubblies. So we have told them to get tae France. Maybe a pile of crap but would not surprise me. Cadden is a strange one for me. Really like him and is a decent player (now with Scotland caps) but I still feel he is soooo inconsistent. If we are playing well he plays well but if we are struggling as we did on Sunday he struggles to raise his game or make a huge impact. Might be staying the obvious with that statement but how I feel. Wonder if we could take some money and Docherty on loan in exchange ?
  3. Nearly 4000 season tickets is a very decent number. Which is why I will be scratching my head when our crowds are 4200 with 750 away fans. Basically it appears as if 15-20% of season ticket holders fail to turn up for every match. Maybe that is the norm with work, holidays, weddings etc etc. But it does seem a high number not attending v season tickets sold. Does not sound like it will be Aldred returning which I would have liked. In my opinion less of a risk as he is a known quantity. We shall wait and see......
  4. Celtic are the masters of the low ball bid. They are happy to accept inflated fees for their players but p1ss about when it comes to other Scottish players. They think they are billy big balls and can get away with it. We told them to F off when they tried it on with Carson in January this year. Celtic fans pass it off as good business. No it is not. You want something you pay a fair price for it. That is how it works in the real world. I hope he goes to Villa. They have a chance of being promoted back to the Premiership and even if not at the 1st attempt they play some big games in the Championship. Teach Celtic a lesson - hopefully.
  5. Oh Sh1t - I do. OK - hope it is just a rumour then...……………..
  6. That about sums up the type of player Robinson seems to favour.....it is all falling into place Not surprised by the answer (s). Very rarely will a club tell a player he is surplus to requirements if he is setting the heather on fire ! Still I (grudgingly) accept that our battle this season will probably be with the likes of St Mirren, Hamilton, Dundee, Livingston etc. So if he is a better midfielder than they have then he is welcome at Fir Park.
  7. Spurious rumours (as in the SUN) that we may be interested in Ross Callachan. Probably nothing in it as the one area of the park we are overloaded is central midfield. I note he played 30+ matches for you last season and bagged a few goals. Would he be a decent addition to Motherwell and a loss to Hearts or would you be glad to see the back of him ? Cheers
  8. Come 5pm he will either be the best value transfer ever or a waste of sizeable transfer fee. That is if Wigan fans are as quick to judge as some Well fans are :-)
  9. We do move on and it is a very good piece of business given the big man was only here for a season. But then I see the possibility of Scott McKenna being sold for around £4m ! Good luck Aberdeen if they get that - but if they do then it maybe highlights that had we held on to Kipre then we could have got more down the line. All that said we still have 2 main debtors to pay and hopefully this sale reduces that to one only as I would hope Boyle is paid off if not already. I guess we now wait and wonder if anyone else leaves this summer. I have said all along I can see Carson being like Randolph and wondering how we never got a fee. At least he has another 2 years left, so no panic if he does not leave this window. You could make a strong argument that Carson is more valuable to the team than big Cedric and that as an international goalie more valuable too. Yes he is that but older but he is less a gamble at this moment in time. Interesting times......
  10. To be honest he was not playing that well pre season and during cup games. That may have something to do with speculation etc I loved the big guy and he was for the 1st time in a while a kind of Icon. Helps that he seems a genuinely decent guy. But he is raw and there have been many a time I have seen his defending / clearances and thought WTF. But then there have been other times where he has strolled it. In all honesty I am not sure it is a given he will make the big time, but if he can cut out the mistakes and that should come with experience he has every chance. I am sure all Well fans hope he does.
  11. Just as we lose Kipre - Hibs announce signing of Jamie McLaren At the risk of going all MJC and Ya Bezzer I feel like as we approach the game on Sunday we get weakened and they get strengthened. Game was going to be tough enough as was. At least Cadden seems as if he will make it. Still I will go along more in hope than expectation. At some point I will no doubt stare into space and dream of Cedric as Hibs score a 5th goal :-(
  12. No I am not. Supposedly Aberdeen are looking for £3m and then some for McKenna and Hibs £3m for McGinn. So on that basis alone Kipre is a bargain at £1m. From what I can see it if it goes through it would be £1m+ based on variables. So we will probably only get say £600k upfront and the rest based on appearances and other factors etc. Hopefully with a decent sell on clause also. Anyway it is just the Sun running the story so we shall wait and see if it even happens. Hopefully Chelsea hijack the bid for £5m and we can see your head implode - joking of course.....
  13. You should get a job as our PR Manager and Chief Negotiator. You are that good at bigging up Motherwell FC FFS !
  14. I don’t mind admitting as a grown man I would weep if Cedric left us this season. He is still raw as would be expected at 21 but he has the attributes to be a cracking player and yes the type that would command £5m+ in a couple of years no doubt as the money paid down south is just stupid imho. All that said if it were to happen and we could entice Aldred back north I could just about live with it.
  15. I see Charles Dunne out for at least 3 months with a groin strain. That is a kick in the haw maws for him and us. This time last year no one would have much cared, but he has been one of our better players in recent months and looked in pre season to have bulked up even more ! Shame but we have a bigger squad and McHugh looks like if he plays it will be defensively rather than in midfield this season.
  16. 1. Celtic - £9m for one player. 2-3 times our entire turnover ! 2. Rangers - Gerrard factor and some semi decent signings. Where is the cash coming from ? 3. Aberdeen - will be close between them and Hibs for 3rd place 4. Hibernian - best squad outside top 3 and I rate Lennon as a Manager 5. Killie - expect as long as Clark is Manager they will be top 6 6. Hearts - on the basis that at least one or two of their 300 summer signings will be decent 7. Motherwell - same squad as last year but with some added depth that was not really there last season 8. St Johnstone - good Manager who gets most out of his squad 9. Dundee - I like McCann - even when he blames everyone else for losses 10. Hamilton - like a turd that won’t flush away - sadly... 11. Livingston - between them and St Mirren for bottom spot 12. St Mirren - based on performances so far in cup and pre season. Not looking great.
  17. Hibs must be in a fantastic position to turn down £2m + a loan player (tbc). It is admirable that they are standing firm as Celtic do there usual low ball offers sh1te. All that said I think £2m is decent for a player with one year left on his contract. I can see Celtic walking away and signing him in Jan for nowt. Are they really going to go back with a 4th bid ? I can fully understand St Mirren fans wanting Hibs to do a deal. I assume that if he signs on a pre contract in Jan then sell on % would be null and void going forwards ?
  18. In all honesty you could debate our style v substance all day long as Ya Bezzer likes to do on occasion. We have a players wage budget and one that is lower than almost every other team bar Hamilton for the season just gone. Probably will be above them Livingston and St Mirren for this season. I am not sure what players we are expected to sign at that level ? A team full of silky creative types just like Luka Modric... The reality is that our Manager is trying to use the budget to get a team on the park to avoid relegation first and foremost. On the budget we had we had no right to reach 2 cup finals and beat Rangers and Aberdeen in the semis. It is almost as if that did not happen and that Robinson is getting almost no credit for that. The compromise is that our football is robust and not always a lot of fun to watch at times. But I have said it before and I will say it again. Would we rather have a team full of Bigi’s for example and find ourselves bumping along the bottom of the table. I am sure the usual glass half empty on Steelmen and on here would be content with that as long as we were trying to play football the correct way - NOT. For all that I do agree with a number of points. I would like to see the likes of Turnbull, Scott and Maguire given a little more opportunity. Quite frankly Scott looked better in pre season friendlies than Sammon has so far. Time will tell as I still think Sammon will be a decent enough signing for us. I also like Bigriamana and the few times he has come on as sub end of last season we improved immediately as a team. I am surprised and disappointed there appears to be no place for him. I can see him leaving and us regretting it.
  19. Shame you feel that way. May be tongue in cheek but this is sadly serious accusation. Most people have been bullied physically or verbally at some point in their lives. I was verbally by a previous boss, but I just thought he was a dickhead and despite my anger at the time you move on. Some people are not as thick-skinned. Hopefully there is less in it than appears. I suspect the situation at Oldham - where if I recall Robbo received a death threat ! put him and others under quite a bit of pressure. There might be nothing or something in it. We will probably never know.
  20. I have seen the friendlies at Darlington and Dunfermline. Difficult one to answer. Guess it depends on the opposition. I have been reasonably impressed by Danny Johnson. A very good goal at Darlington. We know what we get with Bowman. It depends on how Sammon fits in. At least we have options. End of last season it was Main and Bowman pretty much with Ciftci as back up. I actually think Sammon will do a good job for us and maybe by the end of the transfer window Bowman may have moved on if there is any more interest in him. I like Bowman but Sammon is in theory an upgrade. Who knew he has had 9 caps for Republic of Ireland !
  21. To be fair I agree with quite a few comments in the post above. I know that is almost akin to admitting liking Donald Trump or Theresa May. I get that we would all like to see silky football played on the deck with silky skilful footballers but not sure that we can afford that. Not sure it would have given us 2 cup finals. Many on here have bemoaned the fact we were a team easily bullied and ragdolled and now we can hold our own. One wonders if Robinson tried the route of youngsters and silky footballers and we were getting scudded week in week out what the response would be. I very much doubt it would be along the lines of ach Well the gaffer is trying to play football the right way.......
  22. Probably very similar to our Managers thinking. The truth is outside of Moult and then Main to a lesser extent we have had one key goal scorer. I like Bowman but he is hardly what you call prolific. It may prove to be that Sammon is an upgrade in that respect. Also provides cover should main get injured or suspended or god forbid leaves in the transfer window. I did not expect Higdon to be such a hit so he will get my backing until he misses a sitter !
  23. What we Well fans should do is what all other fans of clubs when they sign players that are definitely in the meh bracket. Here goes..... A strange signing as very similar in style to our other strikers. But he did not too bad for a team that got relegated, so er go that means he should do better in a classy team like ours. In fact I quite liked him the few times I have seen him play against us. Add in the fact he has played higher standard down south and has an International cap I think this could be a shrewd signing and one that turns into a fantastic piece of business. How did I do ?
  24. That was not my intention but feel free to make up that sh1te. How many of them have been to Fir Park before ? Might not be the San Siro but it is not stretching it to say they may rather have a pint in the Cooper stand at Fir Park than Club 100. Just my thoughts and clearly encouraging away fans to drink and pay money to the club seems to have amused a few. But hey ho no surprise really.
  25. It is to me... I would rather we took in any money also. But I am sure the City fans will choose themselves.
