  1. I don’t blame Hastie for making this move at all. I wish it was not to Sevco, but they are prepared to offer him wages of a multiple of 6/7/8 times what he is on with us. The point being that if we are querying whether he will make a significant impact on the game then you cannot blame the lad taking the money on offer and a 3 year deal. He could stay with us, not kick on and never get the opportunity to earn that kind of money again. Good luck to him but I would have him on the bench at best over remaining games.
  2. On the latest release from Alan Burrows. I like many was perplexed why we had not offered Hastie a longer term contract. Thankfully he has explained the reasoning. I recall being dismayed when Jamie Murphy left the club for a pittance only for Sheffield Utd to benefit from a sizeable transfer fee. I think we had a sell on clause but it makes more sense reading the press article around Hastie. What is encouraging is the seemingly endless conveyor belt of talent coming through the ranks at Motherwell. Not many going for huge sums but if get a combined £800k for McKinstry and Hastie that is good business. Admittedly Hastie could go for many multiples of that were he to move on to Rangers or elsewhere. I am more pleased we have Turnbull on a deal to 2021. Fingers crossed he will break our record transfer fee of £1.75m. Anyone looking to buy him in the summer should be quoted £2m or no thanks. Kent is a good player but if he is being quoted at £10m then that is minimum we should be expecting for Turnbull. Pleased with 2 signings so far. Polworth seems to be a bit like Tanner. And assuming Tanner is away he would be a more than decent replacement and at 24 as well.
  3. Is it just me that notices the omission of Jake Hastie in the pages referring to young talent coming through. Especially as they include James Scott and Barry Maguire. Are they hedging their bets or as as expected it known he is offski. At this rate we may have an outcome on Brexit before we hear about Hastie.
  4. It looks as if you will be going down. Shame really. You have more going for you than Livi and Hamilton. A grass pitch to start with. A respectable and decent fan base. Lets hope you get into the play offs and keep United in the championship. Fingers crossed.
  5. Like most players Main splits opinion. Because of his reasonably prolific start with us and helping us to get over the loss of Moult. Plus his goal in the cup semi-final, he had built up a lot of goodwill in my eyes and others. He does a power of work and is a nuisance for defenders. BUT He was signed as a striker and in the Main (excuse the pun) they are there to score goals. He has done very little of that this season despite having numerous opportunities. We may end up replacing him with an inferior version but I think it is time for him to move on. Pleased he was here for the most part, but not overly concerned if he goes is how I would sum it up. Would want to keep Cadden, Hastie, Frear, Aldred and Gorrin. But I suspect the only two we may have a chance of keeping are Cadden and Frear. With Cadden we ought to be due a fair chunk of compensation which would not be far of his actual and realistic transfer value and that may well deter suitors.
  6. Me too. Also seeing Rumours that Shinnie is going to sign pre contract also. Money talks....
  7. If this turns out to be true I would not be at all surprised. Not sure the club nor the lad himself would be happy with this news breaking. Whatever anyone says I think we have missed out on not taking a punt and offering him a contract earlier in the year. Sure no one knew the impact he would make in the 1st team, but he was doing well at Alloa and those within the club must have known he had talent. To leave it until a few months before the end of the season.....hopefully we have learned a BIG and probably rather costly lesson. Any other club but the old firm. Wish he was headed down south. If nothing else it should bring an end to the speculation of whether he will sign an extended contract or not....
  8. All fair and valid points Captain Maybe I am just frustrated that there is still no news on Hastie........the longer it goes on..... Glad we have the derby on Saturday to take our minds of contract speculation. For me it has seemed quite a while since I saw that last minute winner v Hearts.
  9. Although if I am not mistaken 2020 is next year. Good news and better than him walking away, but not that much better as we will be in exactly the same position in under a years time. A poster on Steelmen Online is stating that the hardest part of recent negotiations with youngsters is the club rightly want longer deals, but players not so much. Right now I would take Hastie on an extension till 2020. Still the best youngster of all (Turnbull) is signed for a couple more years iirc. There is that.
  10. Tragic for others. For Motherwell fans like me a good thing. I Honestly hope you are right 2nd time around as well. Q - what was the cryptic Instagram post from Hastie ?
  11. He seems to come with some baggage for sure. And I can understand Livi fans POV when standing by him given his background and well documented challenges. He also seems quite highly rated and therefore looks like he would be a good addition if he signed. If he signs for St Johnstone, then that would be continuing a theme of them beating us to the likes of Tony Watt and MOH. Clearly paying higher wages. I mean why else would any player want to sign for St J over the mighty Motherwell :-)
  12. Where does Jake Hastie fit into this ? Did not seem to be on your list for out of contract players, although I do believe he is. He needs to be our next priority now that Turnbull has signed a new deal. I would like us to keep Aldred, Grimshaw, and maybe Mbulu and McHugh. The latter is a strange one. I think most fans if not all think he is a better defender than midfielder and rarely lets us down in defence. But if he wants to play in midfield he will probably need to find another club. Clearly there will be a significant turnaround of players this summer. I do think we will try and sign a few out of contract players but that would leave up to 6- 8 new players coming in. And then of course there is Cadden. A fans favourite but in all honesty he stared this season poorly. Maybe not playing in his favoured position. The injury has come at the wrong time for him and us and it will be interesting to see when he comes back where he fits into the team. We would be due a hefty development fee if he leaves I believe. So maybe best if he does. But he is still relatively young and could sign on for a couple more years in the hope he can kick on and get a good move and us a decent transfer.
  13. That is OK we will not bite, especially since one of our if not the star young player has signed a contract extension. We are in a good mood tonight. I think Gorrin is coming on to a game with us. He has been largely anonymous due to injury and our poor form. I agree re Main and Grimmy has one good game in 3 or 4 although again signs are he is getting back to his best form. The reality is I have never seen us play particularly well against Dundee last 2 seasons and yet we still manage to find a way to win. That will change at some point but we can enjoy it for now.
  14. Getting quite upset at the potential this lad must have if he has clubs down south battling it out for him. It may be a case of you don’t miss what you don’t know but kind of wishing now he would stay put. I assume he is under contract hence transfer fee or would it be a development fee ? Wonder if the rumour is true regarding Sammon to P Thistle or just wishful thinking. Edit - just read article...so signed until 2020.
  15. Cryptic. Surely not MOH. Would be genuinely excited with him + the 2 loan signings, but as mentioned above by bringing in another forward player that would suggest one or two moving on this window. I like Main but he has been poor in front of goal these past few months. That plus he is more likely imho to attract interest from lower league teams down south.
  16. Tbh it is incredible to think we have a guy playing for us who is reportedly on £40k per week. How Villa must rue the day they gave him a 4 year contact. I would be surprised if we were contributing more than £2k per week if that. And if it is less than Sammon then it is a low risk option. As for whether it works out. Time will tell but given he has for now replaced a striker who had only scored 1 league goal so far this season. Again seems low risk all things considered. I am happy with the signing but not hugely excited. That will change if he starts banging in the goals. Also a double edged sword as a half season loan means if he does well he will be on loan somewhere else or as Villa probably hope sold on for a fee of some description. Lots of rumours of other players leaving so could see quite a turnover this window. No fan would argue this has not been required as some players have not delivered and are probably stale and disillusioned themselves. I include Bigi in that. If we can move out a few more players that are surplus to requirements then this has to be a good thing.....
  17. Most fans will always support players that give 100 % regardless of ability. I think Bowman falls into that category. He may well kick on and find Exeter a good fit for him. My fear is if their fans expect him to replace Stockley who has scored 20+ goals already this season they will be sorely disappointed. All in all I wish him all the best but fully prepared to see who comes in as a replacement. Sadly I think Main also now falls into that bracket. He started on fire and did look like a good replacement for Moult. But I would not be at all bothered if he also moved on as rumoured. That leaves us with Johnson and Scott. So 2 strikers would be required. If Ross McCormack is one then great but he may well not be ready for when season starts up again.
  18. It sure is tiresome. Every now and then we perform v Rangers at home, Celtic at home, Aberdeen at home. The players have it in them to do much better than what we saw today. St Mirren were there for the taking and did not offer much yet we still went and lost the game. We must be the most inconsistent side in the league. We follow up a win with a dire display and follow that up with a win. That would probably be enough to keep us up, but after that display today you get a feeling we are more likely to start following up a dire display with yet another dire display and so on. Then we will be well and truly in the mire. The battling team from last season seems to have disappeared altogether. I would have taken a coupe of wins from the 3 games as long as the loss did not come at Accies. But that readily just put a shit lot of pressure on the team and Manager. Play like that and Killie will stroll to 3 points.
  19. Would like to see the stat for headed goals conceded. Must be higher than what would be considered normal. Even the last handful of games all goals have been headers - 1 for St Johnstone, 2 for Livi and 1 from Hearts.
  20. Think they did state that a large % or I would imagine a large % is based on player bonuses. The players would have been on healthy bonuses to get to semi finals and finals. That is understandable as it shows the extra income and profit it brought into the club.
  21. Positive looking results. I hope the club have been sensible enough to stick some away for a rainy day of which there are bound to be a few. Good to see the comments about Directors reviewing financial state with a view to a sustainable future. Although one wonders if that statement is an admission we have splurged a lot of our new found wealth ! We have the Kipre transfer for this year and it would be good to know how much is left in terms of debt owed to Les Hutchison and John Boyle. One thing is for sure we are unlikely to have a similar financial performance any time soon unless we sell 2 or 3 players for a couple of million combined.
  22. Fair play to Sky. If that is the deal then on a per match basis we are on a par with most comparative leagues around Europe. I also like how it increases in years 4 and 5. I hope like most they will sort out the dismal coverage / presenting team. Bye bye BT the season after next. A good product but clearly could bot care much whether they kept the rights.
  23. Like everyone else I am p1ssed off that Sky have won this battle. Quite simply their current coverage is cringeworthy. Nothing against the 2 Kris and the lady that fronts their programmes, but they could commentate on a lesbian orgy and I would still want to turn off. They are SO mundane and unexciting. Hopefully they can persuade some of the BT crew to jump ship. The deal may be an increase on the last one but is still absolute pants v EFL and EPL deals. Still I guess if it is the only deal on the table what choice has Doncaster and co got. Will probably bin BT when this comes into effect. The Champions League is same old same old.
  24. Or we could just start any video by announcing the referee is Craig Thompson and bring to halt then. Safe in the knowledge that whatever the result he will have awarded at least one penalty against us. Not awarded one penalty for us. And sent of anywhere between 1 and 3 Motherwell players mostly for the crime of wearing claret and amber.
