  1. Again I think it depends on where we sit relative to the playing budget we have or had for this season. I don’t know if we have pushed the boat out a little due to cup success and Kipre sale. I would like to think that the powers that be (Board and Well Society) have squirrelled away some money from last seasons success for a rainy day. Not to have done that would be foolish in the extreme. On the face of it - it looks as if we a sizeable squad. But a few injuries to key players akin to last December could derail our season. It was hardly on the rails, but you hopefully get my point. Looks like next summer will be a rebuilding job not dissimilar to Robinson’s first transfer window.
  2. All of the posts are pretty much spot on - but given the budgetary restraints we work under it is hardly surprising that we are going to sign players that will end up offering very little to the club. Even clubs that have many millions to spend end up signing duds or players that don't settle at their clubs, so it can only be more difficult when you have relative peanuts to play with. I am quite sure when we were signing the likes of Plummer and Blyth it was NOT on the basis they are shite and wont amount to much. More along the lines they are affordable and may be able to make the step up. I know this is a healthy and reasoned debate and enjoyable reading. But if anyone expects Motherwell to sign only players that will prove to be worth every penny - aint NEVER going to happen. Not 100% - not ever. Arguably we have had as much success as any provincial club the past few seasons with Johnson, Henaghan, Moult + Kipre etc As for youth stepping up. Again I am quite sure most of the duds referenced above were brought in as they had experience and we had the budget. Hindsight is wonderful and yes for all they offered, one of the reserves / under 21's would have offered just as much if not probably more.
  3. I think we are all in agreement that BT sports coverage / punditry is considerable better than Sky. I cling to the hope that if it is Sky who win the rights solely on their own, they may decide to put more resource and effort into making it a better product. Start by getting rid of the 2 Kris’s and poach Sutton, Craigan and Stewart from BT. I say poach but I assume they would be looking for new roles in any case........
  4. Hopefully BT sports only. Will then cancel Sky Sports or maybe Sky altogether. Sky have lost European football as well as Spanish Football yet their subscriptions remain the same. In any other walk of life a company offfering a lesser product would be forced to reduce their prices. Also the thought of watching any more of the 2 Kris’s depresses the f**k out of me. The match analysis with Hayley is so wooden and boring.......zzzzzzzzzzz
  5. As a fan of The mighty WELL and Pink Floyd my inspiration was a T-shirt in the club shop.
  6. Good luck to the Jambos. Another Celtic treble is best avoided for the good of Scottish football.
  7. No offence Dundee but I hope you also get the next appointment badly wrong. I am hoping more Stubbs than Stevie Clarke. We could do with 3 teams as well as us being in the mix for the drop.
  8. His comment about Lasley being a waste of space seems a tad harsh and I cannot know nor can many what lies behind such a comment. Is he hearing from players in squad ? Sounds like hot air to me. The rest is hard to argue with. We’ve all been saying it - we are not a pretty team to watch sometimes even when we are playing our system well. When we are not playing well it is bordering on brutal. Such as the last game v Livi.
  9. No is my response. You also forgot to mention Andy Robertson. One of Scotland’s biggest successes / exports recently. Players playing well in the Scottish top flight will always be a target for English clubs. The key reason is they can buy them for a heck of a lot less than were equivalent players playing down south. I accept McGinn had only one year left on his contract, but players bought by Premiership clubs from Championship clubs were routinely being sold for £5-15m.
  10. I actually thought Hearts were by some distance the better side in the 2nd half and deserved the win. But I agree that with Kipre, Dunne, Rose and throw in a Moult along the way, we would have been in with a real chance of progressing whereas this season we are no longer a surprise package. To me the match turned in Hearts favour with Bigi monumental f**k up. For our players that have fought so hard to get and stay in front you can almost understand the deflating effect such a balls up has. I am still raging. There is a decent player in there but he is not set up for a battle and that is what we are up against most weeks. He will probably play well v a good Killie side. We have come along way in the cups when we are disappointed at a quarter final exit to the leagues top side away from home..... As for Bowman. I have been a critic of his in that he does not score enough. But kudos to him - a fantastic strike. Hopefully give him a confidence boost for games coming up.
  11. I think that is a shocking but not surprising decision but the real outcry is yet to come. This will happen. In next few weeks a player from anyone other than Rangers will have a sly kick out at an opponent. The appeals panel will meet and pass the death sentence on said player. I am assuming they have the power to do that. The same weekend Morelos will attack an opponents goalie with an axe severing his arm and be politely spoken too. The appeals panel will then meet and advise that as the axe was not sharp enough they uphold the original punishment. Ok maybe a slight work of fiction but trust me when I say the next non Rangers player will not get off at all.
  12. Is Sutton not an ex team mate ? Nuff said........ I will tell you how much of a correct decision it was. Fans of all other diddies are p1ssed off he was not given longer. St Mirren will face a fight to stay in the top flight, but even this early on relegation looked odds on with Stubbs at the helm.
  13. 3 years to pay off unless there was a clause about probation period. Just as well the Buddies got that wedge from the McGinn transfer. Plus one assumes Darren Jackson and co. Tbh if he was such an disruptive influence then it is a shame for St Mirren they possibly have to pay a shedload to get rid. Still by the sounds of things it was the correct decision however short a tenure. It begs the Q how some people that are so inept at man Management and positive communication get into such senior positions. I have know a few in my time. Leaves you scratching your head !
  14. Wow that is a lot of players out of contract next year. The good news is Danny Johnson is not one of them. I will no doubt jinx it but we have won a watch with him. I firmly believe he will be a better goal scorer than Moult ! In fact I am surprised that Celtic have not bid £250k of the £19.7m they got for Dembele to try and prise Johnson away. He looks like he will score in every game.
  15. Dundee seem to like defenders we seem to like midfielders. I don’t know where he would fit in to be honest. He will probably prove to be an astute signing but Hearts fans did not seem overly concerned to lose him when this rumour broke a week or two ago. I take St Johnstone are in for Swanson ? Bit boring for Well fans today but all our business was done early.
  16. Like most clubs they have a fare share of dickheads as fans. Each club has about circa 1% fall into that bracket. The problem is that 1% of several hundred thousand is a lot more than 1% of say 30,000 for provincial clubs etc. The thing that annoys me is that they totally disregard anything their club, players and fans do so have no perspective whatsoever. Probably because they are operating with minimal brain cells. It was not that long ago at the play off that their fans were hurling flares onto the pitch and spitting and battling with the home support when things were not going their way. We have always had our fair share of troublemakers. We have gone into admin in the past. But most of us accept these facts and take that into account before commenting on others. Not the old firm.....any bad behaviour or history gets instantly wiped from the record books and expunged from the memory. In fact that’s what makes comments like those above so funny. That reeks of Motherwell did not let us win so I am rather annoyed but have no intelligent way of putting it in writing. As for the record - they probably embellished it !
  17. Did not know Liam Donnolly also injured. Not necessarily a huge impact but had never seen it mentioned before. Cadden looks like he may well miss this game and the chance to play his brother. Would be a shame. That said a week on the bench may not be the worst thing for him through injury or otherwise. But the biggest revelation is that Bigi himself admits he was neither fit enough or even in the right mindset to play last season. In some ways that backs up the theory or indeed fact that we as fans know very little about what is going on behind the scenes. There has been such a clamour to play Bigi and now it looks as if he will make starting 11 form provided as he is hopefully staying now. From the gaffers interview I take he may persevere with Main and Sammon upfront. Hope I have read wrongly into that. I would like to see Johnson start. I would also like to see Turnbull get some game time.
  18. I will be going along. Hopefully I can get away without suffering from black pellet poisoning ! I am strangely confident. We are a cup team and I expect us to maybe catch a break that we have not really had this season so far.
  19. Would like to see Turnbull being given a chance v Livingston this weekend. I know it is unlikely but apart from Bigi none of our other midfielders did a turn v Hamilton.
  20. Probably spot on with that team - although I have a hunch if Johnson starts tomorrow it will be with Sammon and not Main up front. I would also like to see Frear and Bigi in the starting 11 but expect that Rose and probably ATS will start tomorrow with Bigi making yet another appearance from the bench depending on the scoreline.
  21. In midfield maybe but not in defence or attack. Bearing in mind the reserve league has replaced development / under 21games so players like Christian will get the chance to play against more experienced players. If this turns out to be even half as good as Kipre then again we will have won a watch. Time will tell.
  22. I would be delighted with this if true. i thought he was excellent for us 2nd half last season. Solid as a rock. Would surely need less time to settle back in than A.N other would.
  23. £3m is a good deal for a player that had one year left on his contract. It is also good that St Mirren get a fair chunk for their efforts early on in his career. But overall I am chuffed (even with no involvement from an MFC POV) that he did not end up at Celtic. Delighted in fact. Hopefully teaches them a lesson but I doubt it !
  24. I know I shouldn’t but I had a wee giggle at that. If true £300k or whatever is a decent boost for a wee club like St Mirren
