  1. Why are we up to 6866 when there are only 5335 posts in the thread? Somebody has completely fucked this up
  2. Brewdog bars seem to attract all manner of wrong uns...
  3. It looks a bit too crowded there. Maybe they should bulldoze that historic building in the background?
  4. Thank f**k Johnstone Burgh aren't in the league. There'd be no end of confusion at the beeb.
  5. Snegging the gleg won't calm your nerves mate, you'd be better off with a nice cup of chamomile tea.
  6. This Must Be The Place is my favourite Talking Heads track. I first heard it on the film Wall Street. How hot is Tina in this video?
  7. I enjoyed Spike Lee's version. I have never seen the original though.
  8. The Raid 2: Berandal An undercover cop infiltrates a crime family and has to bust a few heads along the way in this Indonesian martial arts thriller. Nothing I've never seen before but very well executed. Well worth seeking out if you like that kind of thing... 7.5/10
  9. I just watched the first episode on 4od. The cast aren't quite as charismatic as William H Macy, Frances McDormand and Steve Buscemi but it was still really good.
  10. Calvary Brendan Gleeson as an Irish priest who receives a death threat during a confession. This film is dark, haunting and quite moving. Well worth a watch. 8/10
  11. I've been revisiting some old Coen Brothers films this week. I've watched Blood Simple, Fargo, No Country For Old Men and Miller's Crossing over the last few evenings. I can't fault any of them. My favourite directors of all time...
  12. Michel Faber - Under The Skin I was intrigued by the film when I watched it a few weeks ago and decided to buy the book. Very good, completely original, unlike anything I've read before. It's an intelligent read but slightly trashy and doesn't take itself too seriously. Well worth checking out, even if you didn't enjoy the film.
  13. A great film. I love the scene where he takes the nurse on a romantic date... to the Kunsthaus Tacheles.
  14. Dunno about the bothy, but the beach scene was filmed at Auchmithie, near Arbroath. I'm think she's driving through Arbroath afterwards. I'm pretty sure you can see the war memorial just across from Gayfield at one point.
  15. I read that the scene outside Parkhead was filmed on the same day as a 0-0 draw with Hibs. A quick check online reveals this to be 29/10/2011. Some of the scenes with important plot points were filmed using pro actors though. One of the guys was in The Angel's Share.
  16. Good write up. Two days later I'm still thinking about this film and I can't decide if I enjoyed it or not. Under The Skin indeed. You're right about the clips where she speaks to Glaswegians. I'd never really paid much attention to Johansson before but since watching this film...
  17. I think it's true for a couple of the guys she spoke to, as the way they spoke seemed pretty authentic. The novelty of a major Hollywood star driving a transit van around Glasgow talking to ordinary punters certainly adds something to the film. It just wouldn't have felt the same if it was some unknown Scottish actress picking up guys from River City and Still Game.
  18. Under The Skin Scarlett Johansson is an alien on a mission the rid the universe of shell suited Glaswegians. A bit slow moving and not much really happens but it held my attention. A curiosity more than anything else. Oh, and Johansson looks pretty fucking hot. 6/10
