  1. Silence from the home fans as they realise they've got far more chance of playing Stenny than St Mirren any time soon.
  2. One of life's great pleasures when a diver of a forward gets a genuine penalty decision given against them... ... especially when the opposition run up the opposite end and make it 4-0.
  3. The lines around items on most smart TVs being too discrete to the point I don't know wtf is highlighted.
  4. I base this entirely on a chat with a single Buckie fan, but it sounds like a case that if Elgin stay up (which it very much looks like they will), then Buckie will want up.
  5. The clock in the waiting room of my GP practice is running exactly 10 mins slow. Appointments take 10 mins. Coincidence?
  6. Tannadice's 'Fair Play Stand' in its current form wasn't actually funded by UEFA for fan behaviour. They just funded a far cheaper proto-stand, which Utd subsequently rebuilt and couldn't be arsed renaming. I always thought it seemed a little generous. Now/then:
  7. Harsh reality is that you don't lose all your games against Buckie and Fraserburgh and expect to win the HL.
  8. Only the emotionally blinkered would put money on anything other than a Buckie championship win imho. We pip them with a late couple of goals last year, they respond by pipping us on goal difference.
  9. What really turned the screw for me after Fraserburgh last Saturday was seeing a couple of our senior players having what looked like a great laugh and joke outside the ground not long after the game. I'm in no way expecting players to be as emotionally attached to a club as the fans are, but it honestly made me think their hearts aren't in it. Perhaps it was a Price-related thing who's lost the group, but part of me just thought "why f***ing bother" when I saw it.
  10. Previously you could rely on this thread for picking up this sort of stuff: https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/dundee/4943516/stormtrooper-dundee-aberdeen-police-firearm/?fbclid=IwAR2wcdhpvYWzvZycHBDV-vK8tN9czNmdasDxFdLQtUpuQtgW6dpcydfpM6E Alternative headline could have been "Stormtrooper doesn't miss something"
  11. It's compulsory here for employers to pay X amount too, but even with that your average British worker is well below the recommended target. A fundamental issue to understand is what exactly is 'rich'? You'd imagine that somebody asset poor and cash rich would have a more enjoyable retirement than somebody asset rich but cash poor. Is the lesson here 'do not buy a big house and spend everything on holidays instead'? ETA: to play Devil's Advocate here, if people on lower incomes already pay less tax that than those on higher rate wages, should it be a big deal if the former should receive a better state pension?
  12. Unfortunately NICs aren't used exclusively for the state pension. The NIC pot is also used for various other benefits, which are of course already means tested. Political suicide aside seeing as polling days are in every pensioner's kitchen calendar, all that's going to happen if they threaten to make it means tested is that most people will say "what's the point in a private pension then?" and spend what would have been private contributions elsewhere. Even with a private pension fund well above the average worker's retirement pot, most rely on the state pension top-up to live at a 'comfortable' level. So the state one alone wouldn't be much different to a private pension minus the state one. There's zero incentive to throw money away to opt for the latter. I think Australia has a means tested state pension scheme, but I'm too lazy to check the details of how exactly it's means tested (total estate value, private pension pot value, whatever).
  13. I got asked to be a reviewer for a respectable academic journal last week. I declined with a pathetic made up excuse because I don't see myself as being good enough to be an 'academic', even though I've already written a published paper and a PhD thesis on the very subject. I feel that I exist to be reviewed by proper people, not the other way around.
  14. You'd honestly think that was a parody account. "He's can't even say a sentence..." is a personal favourite there.
  15. Toilet door locks that have N-S orientation as the locked position. E-W for locked, Shirley?
  16. Crossing the Tay Bridge just now and some wee girl is looking at the Tay saying "mummy, is that the ocean?! Is that the ocean?!" The mum says "yes, that's the ocean!" (in that voice that they have to do for whatever reason, in case Little Miss Thicko thinks her mum is talking to Mr Skid Row a few seats back). My mind, going mental inside screaming "it's not even the sea, never mind an ocean!" begs me not to correct this blatant mis-truth. I thankfully but grudgingly refrain.
  17. Every time I see this thread bumped, I assume it's sunk.
  18. If supper is the late night feed, are you only allowed fish suppers after your dinner/tea (and not as a pudding) ? Best not ask about the black pudding supper.
  19. A few trips ago I put a can/tin of juice into the fridge in a rec area where I'd never had anything stolen for the few years I'd been working there. My colleague saw me doing this and started nipping my head saying "don't put it there, it'll get nicked, put in the office fridge downstairs!" about ten million times. Just to shut him up, I moved it into the office fridge for the first time. Less than an hour later I went to get what should have been a refreshing cold drink. Gone. Trust no one.
  20. What I meant was it's annoying that a ticket bought at 10:00 isn't valid until 09:59 the next morning. I know that you'd get folk like me who'd opt for the earlier bus the next morning for a 'free' ride, and private companies and their shareholders will never stand for that, but the point stands. As for the NE, don't get me started on Stagecoach bus tickets not being valid on First buses (I've not been on the latter for at least a decade).
  21. 08/03/23: A rest period for Rothes fails to help them beat Forres as they come from behind to scrape a 1-1 draw in their final home game of the season Rothes require a win at North Lodge Park this coming Saturday to avoid being crowned 23/24 Hot Potato champions.
