1. No worries Gordon. We have improved our squad from last year’s transition to a younger group, and that one finished seventh after some ups and downs in terms of runs. This is another transitional season but I think I’d rather be as we are than the grumblings at Hearts and Hibs. I’m not going to mention the usual suspects, not because I’m dismissing them, but because I see us competing with Kilmarnock and Motherwell against Edinburgh for the top six/best of the bottom half. If I’m wrong about St Johnstone this coming season I’ll be as surprised as I’ll be disappointed and humbled.
2. Bad smell? Bad smell? We’ve had some good discussions about the women’s game, but this? I’m not having it. You should stick to the women Gordon. You’re completely off with that analysis. Don’t listen to RandomGuy. The clouds are gathering. The vultures circling. We’re putrid and toxic. You can all rest easy. Going straight down we are, with room to spare. Don’t get me started on Ron Aldo
3. Nah, Tam’s an auld ane. Only that wee TRS is guilty of ageism against his elders and betters.
4. Sign a guy and then loan one that the one we signed was behind at his old club. Play loanee ahead of signed player. Both very young. Strange.
5. A few people who were there have posted specifically that they saw it the same way. Honestly, Ali, you had to have been there to get it. It was odd. I really would like to speak to him.
6. Agree with your comments. Having had Stan as our guest at the last disabled supporters association meeting, it is clear that his retirement from his business has been Saints gain. Perhaps the successor is already in place. I’d be fed up if I were in SB’s position. A business facing the difficulty and downturn such as the construction industry faces, plus running a football club where everybody knows better and could perform the role better. It’s a thankless task.
7. I didn’t hear Arbroath mentioned. Don’t think I nodded off and missed it.
8. Fair enough. As a fellow numbers man you will appreciate that the club have considered this OF issue as ONE* way to deal with a loss of c.£200k based on management, not statutory, accounts. * Other ways were not discussed, except perhaps the presence of the Dundee clubs, but we’ve no way of influencing that.
9. He was visibly angry and upset at the prospect. I think he was alluding to vitriol he claims is directed from Rangers fans towards catholic players at our club, and that such people shouldn’t be allowed to take over our stadium on a match day. I have to say, much as I dislike the OF, that his demeanour and near tangible anger was almost as unpleasant as the behaviour he was so strongly opposing. I’m not criticising the man, I’d like to have been able to speak to him and try to understand why he feels so strongly and why he only spoke about Rangers fans, not Celtic.
10. PauloPerth didn’t SB also suggest that by the January window a players value on a contract ending in May is next to nothing? Also no point trying to extend Drey’s/Matty’s contract early because the agent would simply not engage. I was somewhat bemused at the almost tangible anger from the guy talking about not giving Rangers three stands and their fans treatment of catholics at the club. No mention of Celtic from him. I don’t think he came across well. It left me with the clear impression that many people have their own agenda. As I said last night there is idealism and morals, and then there’s the harsh reality that we’re close to sub 2000 crowds at times. Difficult position to be in to decide to accept the OF money and alienate some supporters, or to turn it away.
11. I’m attending this event. I think. I’m not sure. I’m getting on and my memory isn’t what it was. Eh mind o Gillie. He was my grandad’s cousin. Where was I?
12. Got to pay for all those signings somehow! We just avoid the issue by not signing anyone. We’ve been similarly treated in the past by being shifted for OF.
13. Fair enough. Just a sense I had based on how she looks and her overall demeanour in interviews. Big question is who would replace her?
14. I always thought she had a hard face and imagined her as a bit of a bully. On top of her tactical naivety, qualifiers aside, this should be enough to see her removed. Doubtless@GordonS will disagree but that’s my perception, rightly or wrongly.
15. The latest email - is the first one I’ve received for years. This new system is wonderful! Or is it just that Stan’s been busy?
16. Maybe not MJC. It’s comforting to see fans of Motherwell, Kilmarnock, Hibs, Hearts moaning. Maybe we’re not so bad. Probably, as one St Mirren fan said, there’ll be less between teams from 3rd-12th this season.
17. Similar for me. Saw it early and decided to go and observe. If it’s “managed” it’ll be the last time I attend anything other than a match or the disabled supporters meetings.
18. I looked that up an hour ago and read it again, slowly. Cringeworthy.
19. No need for that kind of reply. I wasn’t arguing with you or criticising anything you said. It looked like we were all expressing similar thoughts.
20. Just do what we at St Johnstone do and bypass the midfield. Works great. groan
21. I don’t like it when terms like that are used to place some above others. I don’t think you were doing that at all. But there is an attitude at times of I was in Vaasa, I was in Berwick, etc. I’ve been to places on holiday that some people have moved to. Which of us love the place more? Can we both enjoy it the same? We can be in a crowd of 1000 Saints away fans and not know anybody. Yet we all want the same thing. And lots of us, of all periods of support, are expressing apathy. That’s dangerous, and that creeping malaise is something I doubt the chairman can address. I don’t like reading WAP or here lately because it seems the common theme among long time fans like yourself and casual attendees alike is that interest is waning. Did you read whatRadford wrote? Telling.
