Baningime and Boyce wouldn't make it into an AFC team ahead of Brown and Watkins or Ramirez. Strange even trying to even suggest otherwise. I'm sure league table will show conclusively in May for any doubters.

Running out of steam after the first quarter of a season and found out after the "surprise package" bit has worn off. Always the same story with their scattergun signing policy and collection of misfits they collect.

Gordon makes that team look a lot better than it is. Could have been 5 for AFC** not in top gear yet. Best keeper in league.

Just remembered this post. Superb stuff.

Rangers were 6 points clear a few weeks ago and now there's a good chance they'll be 4 points behind by kick-off in this match. The pressure on them currently is bigger than they've probably experienced for at least a couple of years. Maybe they'll rise to the occasion (they're more than capable of turning us over regardless) but that's something we have to try and take advantage of. But yeah, we'll probably be passive from kick-off and not start playing until we're behind.

I didn't think for a second we'd be playing Souttar in this match a couple of weeks back but I'm beginning to think a non-trying Souttar is still better than Taylor Moore.

Yet again we were too passive in the first half, not brave enough on the ball and generally did f**k all. I've no idea what the plan was with not starting anyone with pace in the front three and we immediately looked more threatening with Simms on for McEneff.

We started the second half pretty well, had a couple of opportunities and the crowd started to get a bit restless. If we'd scored at that point things might have been very different, but really we were lucky to go in 1-0 at the break and the response to going 3-0 down was utterly pathetic. Well beaten by a much better team.

It's a rotten league and 3rd place should be safe enough, but we've got a long way to go before this team can be considered any good.

It wasnt a great cross if its the one I recall - I was right behind and he sclaffed it.

I agree prev assessment, he was pretty good in defence, and not so good in attack................kinda the opposite of most modern wing back types !

I think Kyle Reese is talking about his low, hard cross across the face of goal in the first half, similar to his one for Cochrane v Auchinleck. Admittedly I haven't seen it since the time but don't think that was a sclaff.

Opinion seemed to be pretty split on whether he was great or had a stinker on Tuesday but I can see both sides on that.  He's a bit lightweight, makes the wrong decision at times and seemed to get caught by the pace of the game initially, but he broadly did well enough defensively (including one great tackle), he can go past people and he's capable of a good cross even if it's 1 out of every 4/5. If he's going to make it here then I suspect we won't see the best of him until next season.

Why would you reckon that Souttar won't be trying against Rangers? I don't know the player that well but what indication has he given that he would down tools against his future employers?

I don't really think that, and based on his limited game time since signing the pre-contract I've no issues with him playing in this. I just wanted to make a wee joke about Taylor Moore being a bit dodgy tbh.

I appreciate that lots of you lads are being trawled into the big net by @Hoose Rice - top trolling, but there is a rather decent point in among all the drivel.

You jambos seem to be very satisfied with your current league performance? And rightly I would say, you have the 3rd largest budget, and for a change the squad reflects that - which is positive.

    However...............

In matches against what you might call "big" teams (Celtic, Rangers, Hibs, Aberdeen) the caveman has a record of winning 1 out of 10 this season.

Allied to his lack of anything better than a point (ever) at Easter Road, the disquiet among the away fans at the end last night was understandable.

It rivals Jack Ross in the "cannae win big games" stakes.

Hearts are doing basically what we did in the league last season - beat all the shite and do nothing against good teams.

It will in all probability get you 3rd spot, but I can almost hear the starting motor on that plane.....................

Did you consider that he might just be bad at posting?

Anyway, "Neilson is a shitebag who can't win big games" is already a well-trodden discussion point.

This season we've had 1 win and 3 defeats v Celtic and 1 draw and 1 defeat v Rangers. That is completely unremarkable for Hearts, if not slightly better than usual. We've been competitive in maybe all but one of those games and I don't think anyone else in the league has taken more points off them than us. They're just better teams by a margin.

3 draws and 1 defeat v Hibs and Aberdeen is fairly poor but could easily look quite different by the end of the season. We've beaten Motherwell twice and they're ahead of both.

Everyone knows he has limitations and our fortunes in the cup will decide a lot of the feeling towards him, but it'd be mental to be questioning his position just now. Consistently "beating the shite" isn't something to be taken for granted, as Hibs are finding out this season.

We aren't proclaiming to be the better side by miles though.   Hearts haven't won a derby at the pink tip in 4 years either.

You were the one that brought up derby records at Easter Road though weren't you?

Heading into this season with broadly the same squad that just achieved your highest league finish for 16 years and facing a newly-promoted Hearts team that were beaten by Brora the year before, is this how you thought it would turn out? Spinning a shite 0-0 draw at home as moral victory?

I'm pretty happy with how things are going to be honest.

Got to be embarrassed not beating a team with Andy Halliday in the starting line up. Felt we played the better footballl and should have won. Hearts were poor and far from the world beaters they have been made out to be. Hopeful balls and no real intent. Did the Billy Boy's renditions come over clear on the tele as it did at the ground? Well done to all the Hibs supporters trying to drown out that abomination with boos. They really are 'Diets' in every sense of the word.

You didn't have a shot on target until the 82nd minute and your goalkeeper was awarded man of the match.

Most have been pretty fair but there have been some incredible takes on this game.

It's been a great week. We've come out very nicely from a wee run where Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell all played each other and we had Celtic.

Yeah, by the end of the weekend we'll be a minimum of 7 points clear, having played all of our pre-split games against Celtic and Rangers (Motherwell will still have Rangers away, Hibs and Aberdeen will still have both). We'll also only have two games left against the current top 6, both at home.

This run of games was probably the best chance for Hibs/Motherwell/Aberdeen to start closing the gap but it hasn't materialised. If we can pick up another 4 or 5 wins before the split then we should be home and dry by then.

I'm 42 chief, I've been on a great many 'European adventures" (🙄). It's cool, I know what to expect. It's all about the Scottish Cup now. If we win that, or one of the OF do, we are in the group stages of the European Conference League. Will that be better than our games v Bayern, Bayer Leverkausen, Mallorca, Liverpool or Spurs? Probably not. That's just a reflection of where Scottish teams now are in European terms. It would however be comparable to when we made the group stages of the UEFA Cup in the mid 00s, and bring in a decent wee wedge to try and improve the squad for next season.

Worth saying that, if it does happen, we'd have a Europa League play-off first, potentially playing a big club. Lose and we'd be in the ECL group stage which did include some big names this season (including Spurs).
