If we can't keep a clean sheet in that game them we never will. Alloa did absolutely nothing else for the rest of the game.
Unsurprisingly, we created a lot more with Ginnelly, GMS and Boyce on the pitch.

A predictably boring half with two unpredictably good goals.
"GMS" on at half-time.

Had heard it was a head injury - he's on the bench the day, so it cannae be that bad.
Stewart, Haring, Popescu, Ginnelly, Mackay-Steven, Naismith and Boyce on the bench. Frear, Roberts, Henderson and Walker in the starting line-up.

GMS missed out tomorrow, apparently.
Why? Because of the burst lip?

It's also complete bollocks. We will probably make 2 signings tops in this window.
Neilson started with the majority of his budget tied up in a shite, bloated squad and most of our summer business was focused on outgoings, so I don't hold him too accountable for the fact there's still plenty of work to be done. The Frear and Roberts signings are definitely on him, but I also doubt there was a wealth of good wingers floating around in a similar price range that would have been willing to play in the Scottish Championship, especially this season.
There's a line of thinking among some fans that whatever their club can afford to spend is the morally correct amount. Bigger clubs that can afford better players are overspending and "buying" their position. Presumably Dunfermline won't be signing anyone this window and, if they do, it won't be to buy a play-off spot.
Mackay-Steven is a good signing largely because he'll be useful next season as well and isn't just a short-term fix. We're winning this league with or without him. Having said that, if we've got GMS and Ginnelly both available then we'll be a very different attacking prospect compared to the last couple of months.

An away game without Ginnelly or Boyce? Think I might give it a miss.
A shameful admission but I'd take a point and move on.
Two neggies for this post.
We're shite at the back and if you take a couple of players out of the attack we offer nothing at all to make up for it.
Predictably abysmal. Nothing on the bench to change things either.
Charlie Adam is comfortably the best player in the league. The ball in for the first was exceptional.

I'm surprised Ginnelly being out is such a big issue tbh. He was good against us but he was honking until his goal in the cup final. I didn't think he was that big a piece atm.
It would be a bit of a stretch to say he's our best player, but he's probably the last player I'd want to be missing due to the complete lack of alternatives. Neilson made a big thing of building the team around "width and pace" in the summer and Ginnelly is the only one who actually offers that. We're far more predictable and easy to defend against without him in the team.
In an hour against Celtic, he scored and set up a goal and got into shooting positions. Roberts and Frear are never capable of that performance.

You say you aren't getting luck, but Aidy White may be available.
Which also all but confirms that Ginnelly has Covid.

Hearts with another brain-numbing 45 minutes and leaking another goal at home. Our defence needs a lot of work before we set foot in the SPL.
While that's obviously true, the defence had nothing to do with the goal and otherwise hasn't been threatened at all in this game.

I'm trying to work out if this guy is wooshing us somehow but I genuinely can't see the angle. Neilson, for all the valid criticism of his style, did an excellent job getting us out the championship first attempt.
I'm pretty sure that guy's made an appearance in every Hearts thread I've seen this season. At least he's not trying to shoehorn Dunfermline into the conversation this time.

There'll be about four valid goals the entirety of the Championship this season if this is the criteria. The cup final last week was probably a 0-0 too. Nice wee comfort blanket if your team's been pumped I suppose.

First half - Dominant and rarely threatened at the back, but ponderous going forward. The story of most of our league games this season (the ones that haven't featured Ginnelly anyway).
Second half - Nobody can defend. Every shot is a goal. Christophe Berra is a winger.

I thought Ginnelly was good tbh. Couple of chances he should have done better with but he caused them loads of problems and put in a great ball for the first equaliser as well as scoring.
We were certainly much more of a threat with him on
Indeed. He scored one, set one up and, although he should have had another couple, I'd far rather have him in the team than someone like Walker, who was reliably anonymous in another big game.

Gutting that Haring and Ginnelly aren't fit enough to start. There goes the solidity in midfield and any pace in attack.
Hopefully we're still in it at half time.

Berra isn't good enough for the championship never mind another cup final vs celtic. He'll sell the jersey again and the buck stops with Neilson when he does. That's before you get to the fact that he'll just keeping hoofing the ball into Celtic's half all game inviting constant pressure and eliminating any chance to constructively counter attack.
Unfortunately the main alternative is Popescu, who's also rubbish, also gives the ball away (often in more dangerous areas) and himself almost sold the jerseys in the semi-final. Any other options mean moving players out of their best positions and bringing in lesser alternatives, so there aren't really any good ones here.
It's very difficult to predict a line-up at the moment, but I wouldn't be completely surprised to see Neilson go with a back three, partly to minimise the chances of Berra being exposed. Halkett and Kingsley either side of Berra, with Smith and White as wing-backs, a central midfield pairing of Haring and Halliday/Irving, and a front three of Ginnelly/Walker, Naismith and Boyce.

I think the performances in the three games this week were all pretty similar to each other, and our general play from back to middle has improved a lot since September. The difference between the last two games and the Serbia game was that we conceded the first goal, and our lack of cutting edge was exposed.
My concern before the game was that our two attacking midfielders, McGinn and Christie, were two of the the only players to have started both the previous games. If they weren't on form (and they weren't) then we didn't have any reasonable alternatives (Armstrong/Fraser/Forrest) to call on and our attack was always going to suffer. With any luck, that won't be the case by the time the Euros come around.

Terrible from McTominay there.
We've been the better side again but there doesn't seem to be any danger of us scoring twice at the moment.

Today was the day to play the strongest side. If we had we'd have won the group.
Israel are a far better team than Slovakia. This will come back to haunt us.Who should have started today that would have been the difference between losing and winning?

Just tuned into the Czech Republic/Israel game to see Elhamed get an extremely daft red card for handball.

Look, we'll see what happens on Wednesday, but the case for Gordon doesn't appear to be based on anything other than one save in the cup semi and reputation. Which, given he's nearly 38, seems like a dangerous thing to base your case on! We should probably pick our keepers based on what they're doing now, IMO!
What's happening now is Gordon is playing every week, putting in very good performances and making great saves. Jon McLaughlin is playing the odd game at home to relegation fodder when McGregor is rested.
The stuff about him only making one good save against Hibs this season is just ignorance on your part, because he's already made quite a few good saves this season and is showing no signs of decline.
I like McLaughlin as a player, he's a very decent keeper and a good option, but he's not on the same level as Gordon.

And having already gained 7 points in the first 11 games, we'd be comfortably on course to make up another 8 in the remaining 16 games. Was that your point?
