Looking forward to seeing Halkett get his chance to team up with Dec again, just unlucky he got injured or he'd have been playing already.  The two of them played brilliantly together in a back 3 for Livi, so wouldn't be difficult for him to slot seamlessly into Clarke's defensive line up.

I know the policy of chucking in any old journeyman defender has served us well in the last few games, but let's not push our luck.

  2. Garuccio was shite, hence why he was quickly found out by each of our last three managers. He had an annoying habit of inexplicably miscontrolling the ball and/or falling over in innocuous situations and otherwise didn't really offer anything, aside from a good free-kick against ICT a couple of years ago.

Aidy White is also shite, but slightly less so for me, and probably not as easy to shift.

  3. I liked the look of Kingsley and it's brilliant to see Haring play 90 minutes so comfortably. Other than those two and Wighton's hat-trick, there wasn't anything to get excited about.

It's hard to read too much into the performance given that it was the second string team, but the concern for me is that we chucked on a few first teamers towards the end and still didn't look up to much. Roberts looks like he can't be arsed so far and Ginnelly hasn't done much in the last couple of games.

    It doesn't show that though.

I think it's safe to say the white thing coming out of his shoulder and touching the ball is his arm, and if you look at the video, the ball changes direction just after that frame.

Like I say, none of the angles are very good. The best view is miles from the incident, so it's hard to tell, but it looked like his right arm came out and it hit in the middle. The referee was well placed and seemed to think the same.

A few people seem to be very confident it didn't hit his arm, but I've not seen anyone put forward an alternative version of events.

Blurry as f**k, but here's the frame that shows Benedictus' arm extended, and making contact with the ball.

I wouldn't. At no point is Bene's arm fully extended, and you'd have to be using a very generous interpretation of the evidence to say the ball hit it.

He's looked good tonight. Glad to see it.

First penalty is a shambles of a decision. Second one is debatable but how fucking thick is bene. On a booking and gives the ref that decision to make.

None of the angles are very good, but it looked as though the ball hit Benedictus' arm, which was fully extended horizontally. A clear penalty under any interpretation of the handball rule.

Slightly better performance than I expected, without being majorly impressive. Not sure anyone's done enough to force their way into the first XI, though, other than Kingsley and Haring obviously.

  8. The team looked terrible in every way last month, solid enough but clueless going forward on Thursday and then genuinely pretty good in the second half tonight. I'm not fully convinced we've really been tested at the back in the last couple of games, but if the back three still looks solid on Wednesday and we can build on the semi-decent attacking performance in the second half tonight then I might actually be able to muster some optimism for the Serbia game.

I don't know if this formation will be the way forward, but if it is then it'll be to Clarke's credit that he stuck with it despite initially looking like a fucking idiot for doing so. It would have been very easy for him to bin it after the first Israel game.

Hall went off for Kingsley at half time and Dixon moved into centre back. Kingsley could fill in at centre back but I think if we did sign him and that's a massive if then he'd be wasted in there. He'd be the starting left back and Dixon would be vying for a starting centre back spot. I'm very surprised somebody in the premierships not tried to sign Kingsley, I know he's had his injury troubles but he's still only 26.

    Mutch

    Mercer Durnan Dixon Kingsley

    Morrison Miller Alston Connolly

    Keena Dowds

Hearts were after Kingsley earlier in the window but his wage demands were far too high by the sounds of it.

Strachan failed to get us to Euro 2016 when it was harder to not qualify. He had to go.

McLeish was a joke of an appointment. Clarke is looking that way too.

Failing to qualify for Euro 2016 was massively disappointing, but I don't agree with that. Georgia away was a f**k-up, but we did well in both games against Germany, took 4 points of Ireland and were very close to doing the same against a very decent Poland team. We weren't brilliant in every game but we were competitive, organised in defence and cohesive in attack. There's a good chance we'd have qualified if Germany hadn't inexplicably dropped all those points to Poland and Ireland and I feel like the campaign is viewed more negatively than it otherwise would have due to the fact that Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales all qualified.

The World Cup campaign started poorly but finishing on 18 points alongside Slovakia and with 2 defeats was a credible result and we were looking decent towards the end.

I thought it was time for a change after that and if the vacancy comes up again soon I'd be looking elsewhere, but even having a manager that can turn us into a half-decent, cohesive team and keep us competitive in qualifying groups until the last game looks very attractive just now.

  11. It's quite bizarre that he's decided to drop Tierney keep the formation designed entirely to accommodate him.

It'll be unforgivable if he doesn't change this at half time. They are clearly there for the taking but we look completely clueless going forward, as we did against Israel.

They all play for the same clubs.   They know each other’s game a darn sight better than the Scotland players do.  Scotland dominiate against technically lesser teams.  Czech Republic B are not a lesser team, in my opinion.  Your mileage my vary, of course.

Their top teams seem to do reasonably well in Europe, but David Vanecek scored goals for Teplice in that league before coming here and looking woefully out of his depth (he managed to be the worst player on the park against Auchinleck Talbot). Rudi Skacel also managed to play regularly at the age of 39, a full year after his underwhelming spell at Raith Rovers.

Those example might not be representative of the overall standard, but I'm pretty confident these guys coming in are going to be significantly worse than our first team.

That said, I'd guess they're likely to at least be of a similar standard to the Estonia/Lithuania/Macedonia type teams, and we quite frequently drop points away to those sides. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we do the same here.

The word on the street is that the deal to take Hickey to Bologna is an attempt to cut celtic out of any cash.

That's obviously too good to be true, but I'll take it for now.

There's no way I'll sleep the night with this much of an erection, but it'll keep the sheets off my sunburn.

That was based on the reports that it was a loan with an obligation to buy. Then people confused that with Bologna paying a loan fee.

Nobody stopped to think at any point that if you could shaft other clubs out of sell-on fees as easily as that then every single club on earth would be doing it.

    WHERE IS HIS HAIR?!?

Souttar's Twitter likes first caught my eye when he was liking all the "it's coming home" stuff during the last world cup. It's been a natural progression from there to being a massive statue-loving, anti-masker, Tory c**t.

Aberdeen have recently built their training facilities which are considered "state of the art" and widely regarded as the best in Scotland (Including the OF). We also own our training facilities unlike Hearts. We are currently in the process of building a new stadium within the next 3-5 years which would see our annual turnover increase to around 25 million. The fact that we sell more replica shirts than any club outside the OF (and in fact club merchandise), have more fans active on social media then our Edinburgh rivals, brought 50k to the league final all indicate we have a large fanbase. Our catchment area is considerably bigger then our Edinburgh rivals. When playing in European competitions or if The Rangers or Celtic play us at Pittodrie we usually have a sell out crowd. Once we move into our new stadium Aberdeen will most certainly be rivalling the Edinburgh clubs average attendances and will most likely better them. We have a considerably larger travelling support then both Hearts and Hibs too - thats always been the case. Why don't they ever comment about these facts? Maybe because it doesn't fit their narrative.

Aberdeen are the third largest, third most successful club and have the third largest fanbase in Scotland. End of. Get over it.

    Ooft.

Not sure why some Aberdeen fans are desperate to start a willy-waving contest about trivial guff after a good win and performance today, but it's interesting to see that fanbase size isn't measured by the number of supporters who go to games, but by "social media activity".

Citation needed on the "catchment area" claim as well. I'm guessing Aberdeen's catchment area stretches from Dundee to the Faroes while Hearts and Hibs are limited to Gorgie and Leith.

  15. I get that Dundee United have been complete guff for ages but I didn't think their fans would be getting giddy over chucking a lead at home against ten men and getting a scrappy away win.

Not exactly over excited but definitely a better option than Elliot Frear.

Try not to get too excited, but I think we might sign both.

While I have no issue seeing pretty much any individual moved on, my main worry is it is guys who were probably in the better performers category who are going first with Hickey and Clare and there are rumours guys like Smith and Uche could go too. I hope we have players lined up, because whether it's a poor league or not we'll need some proven quality as we can't afford to be relying on guys like Brandon and Moore.

I do think we have some decent players but we've also got a big, unbalanced squad with a lot of money tied up in it. We need to free up cash so we can supplement the decent players with some pace and mobility in midfield and down the wings. Players like Clare and Washingston, who are a) saleable, b) well-paid and c) don't really contribute enough to justify that pay are prime candidates to move on. On top of that, one doesn't have a position and one is a striker that barely scores, IMO those are both luxuries we can't afford.

As for Hickey, it's a shame we won't see him develop here but he isn't signing a new deal and £1.8m is potentially far more valuable than one more year of him.

I'd rather keep Smith but I'd be delighted if Uche left.
