  1. The conclusion was that Scotland were lucky to win because the ball came back off the post to Burke. My argument was that the "luck" involved in the rebound was balanced out by the initial effort being unlucky. The latter considers both sides of the coin, whereas the former does not. Anyway, the main point is that there's little to be gained from analysing the game to the nth degree. There are an infinite number of random, luck-based events which influence the outcome in their own small way. Generally these will balance out between each team (as in the example above).
  2. Well, exactly. That's why I said you could argue them equally.
  3. I find this argument a bit of a stretch. You could equally argue that we were unlucky that the initial effort his the post instead of going in.
  4. Aye, he was getting the bus down to Ayr, where his car is, and then he's driving up to the game. Then again, maybe I made up Craig Brown giving me a transfer exclusive about Josh Magennis on the bus, right enough.
  5. I'm on the Aberdeen to Glasgow bus sitting across from Craig Brown and he tells me Magennis is on his way to Hearts. Oh no.
  6. My joy at not signing Curtis Main was short-lived then. I was a fool for forgetting we'd just sign a different 1 goal in 10 huddy instead.
  7. Re: the "goalies are horrific" chat, what is it exactly that makes people think John McLaughlin is horrific? He was excellent for Hearts and it sounds like he's been the same at Sunderland. Not just a shot-stopper either, he was very good at commanding the box for Hearts. He is fucking miles better than Scott Bain anyway.

  9. Where does this come from? A bit better than the McCann rumour anyway.
  10. Likewise I must have missed Celtic moving up a gear. Was it when they managed their first and only shot on target from open play in the 82nd minute?
  11. Ach well. Our goal was fun. Performance-wise, no-one let themselves down aside from a couple of individual errors and Levein got his tactics right. That said, it's still time for him to go and retire a trophy virgin (lol no chance).
  12. Aside from me being less enthusiastic about McInnes than you, we're not miles off being on the same page here. The original point, made by someone else, was that McInnes was not comparable to Levein. I pointed out what I see as the parallels between McInnes and the 2009 version of Levein. That doesn't necessarily mean McInnes would be as big a failure as Levein, but I can see why the comparison was made in the first place. It was someone else who made that comparison. I was the one denying the comparison.
  13. Then your point doesn't contradict mine at all.
  14. No, you're getting it arse over tit. I'm not using it as evidence that he wouldn't be able to do it, I'm saying (again) that being consistent over a league season for Aberdeen isn't necessarily evidence that he'd be able to improve our record against lesser teams. It was me that made the original point about consistency being one of his strengths. I was disputing that that alone qualifies him to do the job. As I said in my original post, I'd say his consistency is based more on a smart signing policy than strong tactical nous or an ability to get players playing above their usual level. Clarke has achieved a similar consistency (albeit over a shorter time) with a squad of players who were battling relegation before. That gives me more confidence that he'd be a good choice.
  15. Nope, I didn't set any criteria. If you look back through the conversation you'll see that someone suggested McInnes would be good because we don't beat the lesser teams enough. My point is that beating lesser teams more often than not over 38 games is not evidence that he'd take 100% of the points against lesser teams in a qualifying group, which is what we need to do.
  16. That's my point: we need someone who will take full points against the lesser sides, or at least make up for any dropped points by taking points off the better teams. McInnes has a decent record in beating the lesser sides more often than not for Aberdeen, but that's not necessarily evidence that he'd get us where we need to be.
  17. I haven't seen this for ages, but in the context of this scene, I'm pretty sure she and her people are on the brink of starving to death unless they let her into the city. In any case, the issue isn't necessarily where she ends up (I've no doubt it's been the plan all along), it's how she got there. She has always had a dark side to her (as do loads of "good" characters in the series), but that has been reserved for wrong 'uns and her enemies until now. What was it that made her jump from that to killing thousands of innocents for no reason exactly? You can point to how it was foreshadowed in some obscure quote from six seasons ago all you like, but most people found it jarring for a reason; it was poorly done. I saw someone suggest an alternative plot where, instead of Rhaegal dying in the previous episode, he is opportunistically taken out as the bells are sounding, triggering Daenerys' attack. Even this small change would have been a big improvement. If you're making reference to the Ramsay quote, stop being an absolute dweeb. I don't care about happy endings, I care about good endings. This one has been a clusterfuck.
  18. Seasons 1-7 Makes her name freeing the slaves and defending the innocent against rapists and murderers. Season 8 Commits genocide for no reason. Aye, seems fair enough.
  19. I'd love a Scotland manager that consistently beats the lesser teams, the inability to do that is why the job's available in the first place. Fair, but there's a big difference between beating them more often than not over the course of a league season (enough to finish 2nd/3rd) and taking 16 or 18 points from 18 against the diddy teams in a qualifying campaign, which is what we need to be aiming for. We already beat the lesser teams more often than not but usually don't trouble the better teams. That's enough for Aberdeen to finish 2nd or 3rd in the Scottish Premiership but it's not enough for Scotland to qualify for major tournaments.
