  1. Thanks for that. I feel empowered with a knowledge I will never need.
  2. Possibly not the most important part of Brexit but obviously important to some folk.
  3. I've seen some tedious pedantic pointless arguments on here but my cap is doffed to you 2. Well done sirs. The amount of googling to win an online argument is commendable. And a little sad. Edit: Obviously I didn't read all that guff.
  4. Given that everyone 'knew' this was going to be a 0-0 shitfest, how many actually made money out of their knowledge? I have to admit that I thought it would be a pishy 0-0 but didn't actually think to make some cash out of it.
  5. Daft suggestion. We couldn't afford the bribe like Qatar did.
  6. Yet another example of one rule in Europe and one rule for the domestic game? The SFA should tell UEFA that it's perfectly acceptable. Otherwise they would have acted.............
  7. I don't understand why England want to keep such a drain on their finances. They must really really love us, Wales and Northern Ireland.
  8. 23rd Jan 2023 is my target just now. I'm going to be pissed off if they change it. They might. Just to screw me like every government has screwed me since Gordon Brown was chancellor.
  9. Aye, it's easy to sign up for a new TV channel but you have to phone up to cancel. Make it slightly harder and you coin it in. Same goes for the tax credits.
  10. Also apparently we leave pension credits unclaimed. es that 40% of families eligible for pension credit weren’t claiming it, leaving up to £3.3 billion of available pension credit unclaimed. https://fullfact.org/europe/pensioners-eu-uk/ I'm unconvinced that our pensions are that unaffordable. Yes, I fan understand that increasing lifespan creates problems but surely it's a question of priorities rather than affordability.
  11. Some stats about pensions. https://obr.uk/forecasts-in-depth/tax-by-tax-spend-by-spend/welfare-spending-state-pension/ You can gauge for yourself if they are 'unaffordable' or not.
  12. Edinburgh Worldwide IT 155% Monks IT 145% Unilever 110% (Inc dividends) Diageo 106% (Inc dividends) Jupiter European IT 74% I just hope to beat the FTSE over the long term and it is generally about 9% on average. My worry now is a crash before my retirement date or the government changing something to screw me over.
  13. You can retire at 55. For now. That's already been upped from 50. They might change that at any time. They've already changed the women's retirement age with very little warning. Pretty sure they'll mess up my planning by taking away the 25% tax free allowance before I reach 55 as well. Only 3.5 years to go.
  14. Yes but the majority of my portfolio are investment trusts so I think I was just lucky picking the right ones with good managers. Not Neil Woodford!! IMO politicians have made it easy to make money on the stock market for the top end by fiscal stimulus and cheap credit for a long time while simultaneously screwing folk at the other end with austerity. I'm sure it's always been the way but it just seems more pronounced. As for pensions, I'd advise folk to get them as early as they can and put as much as they can afford into them because the state pension will not be around for long. I was told that 30 odd years ago when I first started pension and it's even more true today.
  15. Over what timescale? If it's just a year, then that's understandable because it's not been a good year but if it's been over the last 5 years, then I'd change your provider if you can. Since I moved my pension from Aegon to a SIPP 5 years ago, I've averaged 17.81% return per year.
  16. They've been singing that for a while now. Ruined another good song for me. The b*****ds.
  17. Unfortunately that will never happen. We'd have to grow a spine first. We will do what they want.
  18. A bit will be paid in dividend to Desmond.
  19. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/08/12/boris-johnson-has-publics-support-shut-parliament-get-brexit/ Have to say I'm surprised at that (of course the caveat being the paper which paid for the survey)
  20. As much as I'd like these stories to be true, they don't sound in the slightest bit plausible. How can you trick someone into losing their sense of smell?
