  1. That double Sometimes you just know someone is going to win.
  2. We have reached the point in the year where my Wikipedia links have stopped being purple.
  3. Week 17 update Three deaths this week. First, singer Harry Belafonte: Harry Belafonte, singer, actor and tireless activist, dies aged 96 | Music | The Guardian Are you singing the song yet? Belafonte died at 96, so he's worth 29 Base Points for @BillyAnchor, @German Jag, @Moomintroll and @superbigal. ================= Isn't it funny how you could have two deaths in one week where the people left indelible marks on western culture, but for very, very, very different reasons? Jerry Springer: Jerry Springer obituary | US television | The Guardian I posted as much earlier, but I have a hard time thinking positively of someone who fronted five thousand episodes of this nonsense. That obituary ends with a quote from him: “Television does not and must not create values; it’s merely a picture of all that’s out there – the good, the bad and the ugly.” I realise I may sound like a hypocrite when I say that the audience and participants don't necessarily always remember that, but I think this is a very naive way of understanding how media has shaped society. Springer died at 79 so he's worth 46 Base Points for @Ray Patterson, with a Solo Shot giving him 96 in total. ================= I forgot anyone picked him but this week we also have dancing man Len Goodman: Len Goodman: Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing with the Stars judge dies at 78 - BBC News The cultural impact of Strictly Come Dancing is something that has passed me by, but he seems like he was alright. Goodman died at 78 so he's worth 47 Base Points, with a Solo Shot giving @weemac 97 points in total. As a result, the standings look like this: 1. JustOneCornetto 309 2. The Naitch 208 3. 4. There's an old guy next to Allen's seat who I'm pretty sure is asleep.
  5. f**k me I saw the score at 16-10 and assumed Selby had it. How on earth are they even both still alive?
  6. Just don't let Rob Walker do anything other than introduce them
  7. I can see my interest in Formula 1 drifting this season with this new format and the fact I don't have Sky. Sprint race weekends were always a bit useless with two days worth of competition being condensed into one highlight package. A day of qualifying and racing then another day of qualifying and racing followed by a day of racing... what's the point? I just really don't want to put the time in to watch and follow all of it when it feels like the same thing over three days for no real reason.
  8. I think there are as many polis and stewards there as there are The Caley fans.
  9. If The Caley play like this in the final they'll lose by double figures.
  10. How much of this game has actually been broadcast so far? About 80%?
  11. When Tropic Morning News first came out I thought it was exactly how I expected a song by The National in 2023 to sound. I'm quite happy for a more straight forward album after a few experimental ones. It all works, which is the main thing.
  12. Nichushkin’s agent, Mark Gandler, denied his client’s involvement in a text message to The Athletic. “No one was found in Val’s room,” he said. “These events have nothing to do with Val.” Nichushkin has been away from the Avalanche since Saturday for what the team has called “personal reasons.” Gandler echoed that statement and declined to answer if it was Nichushkin or the Avalanche’s decision for him to be away from the team. The plot densens.
  13. Also worth remembering that nobody winds up Ronald quite the way Selby does.
  14. Look at the tat you get with The National's new album
  15. A truly generational shitfest, this.
  16. Phoning for a doctor's appointment and having to wait two and a half weeks. Broken Britain.
