  1. I generally think people who complain about the Olympics are dreadfully boring or ignorant - admittedly that's mainly due to people on here who seem to take it personally that sports besides football are shown on the TV for a few weeks once every few years - but something about the coverage this year is annoying me. There's an enthusiasm about it from the BBC which just seems insincere and wildly over the top I don't know if they're over-compensating out of some sense of shared national joy in response to the pandemic, or if it's just me resenting everyone the BBC employs to be on the telly, or if it's there being no fans which makes them all try too hard to say how great it all is, but I'm not into is this year in a way I have been before. It's not helped by all retired athletes being loathsome Tories.
  2. I've also just realised I didn't actually finish off the Cs. Czech Republic is another country that suffers from a historic split in recent times. Historically their best option is Josef Masopust - Wikipedia for Czechoslovakia, while the modern version is Pavel Nedvěd - Wikipedia. Should we count Masopust? Outside of football, I'm going to assume the best options are Dominik Hašek - Wikipedia and Jaromír Jágr - Wikipedia, and I've vote Hasek because his play as a goalie was so much more unique than Jagr's as a forward. Roman Šebrle - Wikipedia is one of the best decathletes ever, while Jan Železný - Wikipedia is the best javelin thrower ever. Emil Zátopek - Wikipedia is an astonishingly good long-distance runner from Czechoslovakian times, and seems to have been from the Czech part rather than the Slovakian. Any thoughts?
  3. Yon boaty boy in the current Olympics is their best option. Maybe Greece claimed all the Cypriots from the olden days. I'm also more surprised you didn't take the opportunity to talk up an Aston Villa player for Curacao.
  4. I started a post then read new ones and it's gone again, so believe me when say that Croatia's best footballer is Luka Modric who's better than the handball player Ivano Balić - Wikipedia Cuba are an interesting one. They reached the World Cup quarter finals in 1938 but there's very little information on any of the players from then. Onel Hernández - Wikipedia was born in Cuba and represents them, currently playing at Norwich and apparently a big fan of Argos. I honestly think he wins this, the high appearance and goal numbers from Cubans are mostly guys playing in their domestic league which I'm guessing isn't great. Outside of football Javier Sotomayor - Wikipedia is the current world record holder in the high jump and has Olympic and world championship golds. Iván Pedroso - Wikipedia Had an even more dominant long jump career. Félix Savón - Wikipedia won three Olympic golds in boxing and is considered one of the best amateur boxers of all time, so is Teófilo Stevenson - Wikipedia. Mijaín López - Wikipedia has multiple world and Olympic championships in Greco-Roman wrestling. Pedro Luis Lazo - Wikipedia is a multiple Olympic and world cup champion in baseball. Pretty much any of these guys are more impressive than their footballers, but if anyone has a preference then go for it. Curacao looks like another one for @Marten to offer some advice on. Leandro Bacuna - Wikipedia looks like the best option (of the ones I've heard of) but we'll see if anyone compares. Jurickson Profar - Wikipedia looks like their best non-footballer, with an eight year and counting MLB career. This one definitely seems like a toss-up. Cyprus round out the letter C with very slim pickings. Sotiris Kaiafas - Wikipedia won the golden boot in the 70s and spent his whole career in Cyprus. Ioannis Okkas - Wikipedia looks like their best option from the modern era with a career mostly in Cypriot and Greek football, with some time in Spain too. As usual I'm happy to defer to the older player here though. Outside of football it's interesting. Georgios Achilleos - Wikipedia is a very successful skeet shooter. Marcos Baghdatis - Wikipedia made it to the final of the Australian Open once in tennis. Pavlos Kontides - Wikipedia won the first ever Olympic medal for Cyprus with a silver for sailing in 2012, and seems to be in the medal hunt at the 2020 games too. Any thoughts on these? I'm inclined to say the footballer for Cyprus, but I think it could go either way.
  5. I think Tommy Hayes looks like the best option here, he's definitely better than the footballer at least so it seems fairly easy. I don't really want to count him for them since going by the usual footballing nationality rules we wouldn't consider him Congolese, but it's a strange case here since he lived there until he was 17 and played while he was there, so it's not like his development had nothing to do with his country. It's a difficult one.
  6. New Zealand is trying to do something similar: An end to cigarettes? New Zealand aims to create smoke-free generation | New Zealand | The Guardian Good. Get it and smokers to f**k.
  7. doesn't seem like you need to try very hard tbf Plus it's quite funny
  8. I just need to know, in case anything happens. He thinks I mean date rape. Not date rape.
  9. Comoros have qualified for their first ever tournament this year, the Africa Cup of Nations. They don't have much going for them but El Fardou Ben Nabouhane - Wikipedia has the most international goals and quite a few winners medals with Red Star Belgrade, along with time spent in France and Greece. Outside of football there's very little. Maoulida Darouèche - Wikipedia has done both sprinting and javelin, so he wins but comes second to football. Democratic Republic of the Congo were once Zaire. There are a few names familiar to English and Scottish football in the recent squads, but unless someone thinks Yannick Bolasie is good my vote is going to be for Dieumerci Mbokani - Wikipedia, with multiple winners medals from Belgian and Ukrainian football. Chancel Mbemba - Wikipedia plays for Porto and has played for Newcastle and Anderlecht, and he looks a good age to play lots of games for his country in the future. This is probably irrelevant though as Dikembe Mutombo - Wikipedia is an accomplished basketball player, so it's an easy win for him. Republic of the Congo are a ballache to compare since most of their most capped players are from the olden days, with an AFCON win in 1972 and little else internationally. Jonas Bahamboula - Wikipedia has the most caps and was apparently voted one of the best 200 African footballers from 1956-2006. So was François M'Pelé - Wikipedia however and he spent a lot of time playing in France and scored a lot of goals, so I'm voting for him. Lomana LuaLua - Wikipedia is a name you'll recognise but M'Pele wins this for me. Outside of football, I've no idea. It's hard enough to distinguish between the democratic and non-democratic Congolese Republics historically, but the DR Congo seem to have the pick of the bunch from over the years. If someone fancies doing the work on this one, fire away. Cook Islands are in the Australian equivalent of the Caribbean. Looks like our only choice is their most-capped player, Tony Jamieson - Wikipedia. Goalkeeper. 22 caps. Alex Beddoes - Wikipedia has won gold medals in the Pacific Games in the 800 and 1500m, I think he wins. That is unless any rugby fans can name anyone relevant. Either way it's a loss for the footballer. Costa Rica is a very interesting one. A lot of their most capped players have a lot of experience and a lot of goals, but I'm going to throw out this name from the 20s and 30s: Alejandro Morera Soto - Wikipedia Keylor Navas and Paulo Wanchope are the other best options but I'm a sucker for a black and white photo of someone with 60 goals in 70 games for Barcelona. Outside of football there's very little: Andrey Amador - Wikipedia once won a stage in the Giro D'Italia. Nery Brenes - Wikipedia is a sprinter with a gold in the 2012 World Indoor Championships in the 400m being his highlight. Easy win for the footballer I think.
  10. EA giving it big licks as if they didn't kill the series and the studio that made it already. Cretins.
  11. I was coming to post this. One of those adverts that somehow isn't less annoying even when the sound's off.
  12. Take away the clips and props from the film and it's the most generic thing imaginable.
  13. Nah there's a difference between outright toxicity and/or winding people up and trying to direct your teammates via the chat when you're at Diamond level and the play is easy and obvious. Now people who vote to forfeit in 2v2 when you're 2-0 up and concede a goal, they can get straight to f**k. I just do it in that situation. You want to be a dick? I don't care about my rating, m8.
  14. Hmm Last Friday I got what I thought was a cold - runny/blocked nose and sneezing constantly, plus feeling a bit worn out. I didn't have a cough or a sore throat, and only really started coughing a bit yesterday, after I'd spent several days not breathing properly. Outside of that and feeling a bit tired which I put down to not sleeping properly in the heat I was fine, and I was at work as normal too on the days I was in. I get hayfever but it's been fine this year even in the good weather we've had, so I don't think it was a sudden burst of that. I've had one vaccine and my next is in two weeks. Would anyone recommend getting a covid test in this situation?
  15. I'd suggest getting a gun anyway tbh, sounds like you'll be at war before the end of the year.
  16. Today I learned what a Groyper is and hopefully tomorrow I can forget what a Groyper is.
  17. It seems you live in America, can't you just shoot them?
  18. Got my letter for my second vaccine today, eight weeks to the day of my first. I don't think I've ever been in a mosque before.
  19. People in Rocket League who spam Take the Shot! Take the Shot! Take the Shot! when the most easy and obvious shot ever is on. Usually happens in doubles and usually makes me miss the shot because I get distracted.
  20. Great stuff watching Fiji boys blubbering so much. Good for them.
